I discriminate by knob, if the pedal has undesirable knobs, I will not consider it. I only accept knobs of the highest artistic standards. The knobs must be striving to accomplish a standard of aesthetic creativity within the total design of the pedal, and must fully integrate with a concept of that design to elucidate some kind of greater motive. For instance, I would only consider purchasing a Hudson Broadcast with RCA console knobs which fit in with the motif of the pedal being a studio console preamp, I would never in my life consider the newer Broadcasts with Davies 1470 "klon" style pedals as this is artistically bankrupt and would probably in my brain, sound inferior to RCA console knobs.
Here are some knobs I would never bother with:

These are probably the worst!

Fredric Effects - just never pulled the trigger
In a strange rebuild year, I went out of my comfort zone and actually tried six fuzzes for at least one practice each (and I really don't switch things around very often) and the Frederic Green Russian came out on top.
It's been on my board for three years now. It beat out the Carcosa and the new EHX Deluxe Sovtek Muff too.
The fact that it only cost me $110 made it even more appealing.
You should pull the trigger.

I'm personally not a fan of pedals with several different modes, submenus, different knob functions on one knob etc. Nothing wrong with them, just never fits my workflow since my brain doesn't work like that when I make music. Give me one sound I can tweak with a knob per function. Guess the Raptio works for me since it only switches between two versions of what I think about as the same thing. But 3 - 8 versions of delay, reverb or whatever on a knob doesn't mesh with me, for some reason.

So anyway, on topic, stuff like Alexander, Old Blood Noise, or even more complex ones like Eventide or Strymon, while cool, never really peaked my interest much.

I haven't tried more brands than I have tried, but two that consistently catch my eye but never get my money are SubDecay and Cusack. I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

What I notice more about the pedals I have is how some brands are over-represented, EHX and DOD/Digitech in particular. In both cases I think it's that they make/made pedals with unique features that are also cheap enough for me to say "what the hell, I'll give it a shot."

I guess I should? I've only heard good things about them so far.

Also its weird to see "brands" all over the thread I think you all are referring to me lol
