It seems more anti capitalist to slap a bunch of logos on non branded items than buy the branded ones and cover the logos

its cool like, for a span of a decade to collect random stickers that you slap all over a pedal board trunk.. then 20 yrs later its like whoa its been a long strange journey, but fuck that I rather buy a 13 dollar glittery custom bulma sticker with her boobies all out or an alien riding a horse with a cowboy hat and stuff, and slap that on my trunk ..but I can never find small dope stickers to put on my gear, but then when I do... I think "are you seriously gonna keep this till you die? or are your gonna make it hard on yourself when its time to sell and some snot is like "there is obvious residue on this expense thing I just bought" fuk stickers, do the UC re housing job.
...think the dude that got "upset" or whatever painted his shit all black which is harder than popin stickers on your shit.

This sounds way flashier than my crooked bits of masking tape covering the blinding LED's.

Can't always do that, I once taped over a pedal because I didn't feel like explaining the crude graphics to children, the pedal sounded awesome and their wasn't anything else on the market quite like it at the time, but I had to tape it until I had time to re-paint, or not use it.

I also have a habit of taping labels on blank pedals so I know what knobs do.

I never got to see the original board in question, because it was deleted and the person who posted it was driven out before i got there.

I thought the comments were relatively harmless, but could see where a newer person might not get that.

I don't have any reason to tape my pedals, but I might sticker one if it's a small utility build I don't wanna paint or something. I like keeping un-labeled pedals as they are (like the Fuck OD), I don't have many so it''s easy to memorize the knob functions.

Well I did cover up my polytune using a matte black Oracal foil (got a lot of scraps and samples in different colors). Figured it's just a tuner/screen, it doesn't need distracting labels.

I don't care what others do with their pedals, but it's a bit funny if they're doing it to obscure the brands or something, not just marking settings/ownership. One of my friends sharpies his initial on the face of 'em, he dgaf.

Isn't tape just a less interesting sitcker?

Yes. In some cases less interesting is even preferable, you might not want a pedal that is too interesting if you are easily overstimulated.

I buy most my stickers from Korean cutebay, or even vintage, sparkly ones from the US. When I want something inbetween tape and stickers, I use stuff like this (have bigger sheets of black, glow-in-the-dark and blue sparkle too):

What the hell am I doing with my 1000th post.

Can you imagine taking duct tape off of pedals later when you decide you don't like the look anymore? That sticky fucking residue everywhere. That right there would be an ennormous paint in the ass.

If I were to do anything like that with a pedal, I'd use stickers at lease. The adhesive is far easier to remove.

^correct

The tape decision seems to boil to: form as function (settings), or function as form (style, cap/anti-cap, endorsee, shame, or some eutecic of these).

And I can never actually put a sticker on gear because I worry I’ll want the sticker when I won’t want the gear or vice versa.

this is why I always make a rule to buy two of somthing....like a shirt or a sticker...sometimes silly pedals, gone as far as taking pics of a sticker on my amp to re use by printing..
