5U = older dudes that love 70s prog
Serge/Buchla = more avant-garde/experimental. Into discussing technique, etc
Euro = rate my rack, what module should I get next, ZOMG NEW MODULE!

Moog is obviously really associated most closely with 5u since it is the classic east coast modular and then the Minimoog. So, I think Moog threads will invite a ton of association of their past which may invite reluctance to change for folks that grew up with Moore or used them 40 years or whatever.

Really, overall, I think Muffs and ILF are more closely related than ILF is to TGP/TB/other forums. There are quite a few folks looking to do their own thing musically by their own rules. Both are more loosely moderated. I prefer to hang-out around ILF and learn about synthesis on Muffs.

Feeding the wet output from the reverb back into the pitch of the oscillator was awesome. And the CV out for the keyboard velocity seems super useful

Do you have any synths yet? It seems like an awesome starter synth, but then so does the Korg MS20 for noticably less $$$

Mostly, I really agree with you on this. But in terms of community attitude, I feel like Muffs is almost the exact average of ILF and TGP, because it has a real blend of pretentious older guys and of people doing their own thing musically. As a forum, its a lot closer to ILF though.

If i was less attached to my guitars it would be an option. Some good old fashioned saving will have to be in order.

i have been thinking about getting into modular with the caveat that i have to build everything myself. i imagine most the basics are DIYable.

Build an old moog modular system. All the circuits are online and powerssupply info, etc

If you're capable with a soldering iron, you should definitely be able to recreate most of the Grandmother's sub-modules – especially if you're fine using other people's PCB's. Manhattan Analog makes a PCB of the CP3 mixer, for example, that's just a breeze to put together. Pair that with a Ladder Filter replica (there's tons of PCB's for that), and you'll get a Moog sound using almost any oscillators.

Euro cases are always expensive, DIY or not, so to get something similar to the Grandmother you'll end up spending more than $900 over time. But that's the beauty of modular, you don't need to make it sound like anything that exists!

The grandmother is badass. I really hate that I want one after I kept telling myself no but it does just have such a cool character. Plus it's quite affordable for a moog.

Pair with a behringer D for some extra oscillators and a LFO and we really are in the golden age of synths. It can only get better from here right?

Yeah. Cost on this thing is pretty out of this world.
