I run a pretty complicated pedalboard setup...
I'm still not a very experienced OTrack user, I'm kinda a noob actually, since my newborn is killing me and my free time.
OT is hard, but what I can say is that it has only 1 cue output to use external effects on loops, in case that's what you wanna do.
Also, besides timestretch and pitch shifting, you only have 2 slots for internal effects per track, unless you use neighbour mode and sacrifice looper tracks.
OT's internal fx are ok, but pedals are a whole other deal.
I have to say, you do get 3 lfo's per track to manipulate ANY parameter you like, plocks and slicing features. pretty sweet also for glitch
In case you want to use the OT as a live looper, you need to use it pickupmachine mode, but you lose overdub capability as soon as you use pitchfiting.
Since I don't have much time lately, I still haven't figured out how to make very long loops.

I honestly don't know in what department it'd be lacking as a sampler except perhaps rubber pads for drumming and being able to handle stereo.
It's like sp-303, but future, but on steroids, and also synth.
OK, of course anyone can make great music on anything - even an OB-X!

I'm just sayin,
your list of caveats was a pretty good list...

Hey guys! I'm choosing a hardware sampler for live use with my guitar, synth and pedalboard. I mostly play drone, ambient and shoegaze/post-rock, and I'm pretty much set on getting the Octatrack. Yet the Rytm MkII also looks tempting with its improved sampling capabilities (and I like its internal sound, too). Does anyone here have any experience with the Rytm MkII as a sampler? I assume the Octatrack is way more powerful in this regard but I'm still curious. Sorry if the Rytm has already been mentioned somewhere along the thread btw.
(Also, I'm not really considering the Digitakt since a used Octatrack MkI can be had for just a tiny bit more)

Blump...
Looking for suggestions for two different units, won't you help?
1. Can fade multiple samples up and down individually. (Does it exist?) Hopefully a hardware solution.
2. Multiple pad unit which is triggered by drumstick strikes.
