But if Boss is willing to work with folks, that's a good thing.
They've released like 2-3 pedals with Fender in the past, don't they? Not sure about the details other than being emulations of old Fender amps but I don't think that was a success.
Whoever is telling Boss which company they should make pedals with, is fucking loco.

That Fender verb is really fucking awesome sounding.
As for them collaborating with JHS though, I don't think it's the dumbest move. I feel like most people don't know about their shittiness, and frankly I see their shit on more boards than just about any other brand. Boss is probably just trying grab a little bit of that action. Lame to us, but most won't even bat an eyelash.

Honestly, the funniest part about this whole thing is that Boss is trying to cop DOD's marketing method and immediately managed to piss off half the pedal nerd community with their first pedal.

Charlie Brown people.
Laughed pretty hard at that.
I feel like R&D may be a little too far from "what pedal nerds want and care about" and more closely aligned with "what do people who like pedals but can't afford boutique stuff care about?"
Boss stands to make a good chunk of change and they'll be able to sell at a very affordable rate.

What do you find irrational about not supporting a company that supports radically homophobic institutions?
If I had to cherry-pick the politics of companies I bought from as a conservative, I wouldn't buy anything from anyone. I pick my battles, and accept that religions, even ones I don't agree with, have the right to believe whatever they're divinely inspired to go with.
But I am neither young nor liberal.

Didn't read the whole thread, but this seems like an obvious grab at the broke TGP'ers/TGP'ers who hate Boss. It's also very stupid.

If you consider $200 for a distortion affordable.

I love fuzz has changed me. I don't know what I consider affordable anymore.

I'd rather get a Count to Go Fuck Yourself.
Now that's a collab I'd be excited for.

Corey Y wrote:People don't like JHS because they're a very typical kind of taking famous stock pedals, doing really common mods that are available all over the place online (forums, diy pcb suppliers, etc.), then put a lot of effort into the marketing and branding aspect, plus traded heavily on P&W connections. Then, anytime any of that blew back on the owner, he would just duck, dodge, dive and dodge around every criticism with excuses about how modded circuits aren't clones, but clones aren't illegal anyway and JHS is a company, not him personally, even though he's the owner operator and puts himself out there as the face of the company at every opportunity. It's one of those smell test situations. He never really does anything horrendous, everything is technically legal, not egregiously immoral in any way that's direct and obvious. A lot of what the company is and the owner does rubs people the wrong way, he's aware of it and takes every advantage of every edge those things give him, while excusing every criticism and frequently letting his supporters defend him while "keeping out of the drama" himself.
Anyone can feel free to call me out on any of that. It's just an observation, I don't really have a strong personal opinion about JHS. I find them kind of pedestrian and underwhelming. They just strike me as a brand, more than a builder.
There's more to it than that; a dubious pattern of behavior. Are you familiar with the Hyperion fiasco?
Then there's the v1
Pollenator featuring the Georgia Tech mascot, the v1 Charlie Brown featuring Chuck Schultz's character, VCR with Recoton art, the Pink Panther...and other companies coincidentally releasing pedals of the same names around the same time (crayon, double barrel) All of these little *misunderstandings* seem to align in proper context when remembering we aren't talking about the audio company built by John Hornby Skewes...

Boss should have collaborated with Sola Sound to tailor the perfect, digital Tone Bender.

I guess the whole collab-parallel-drive pedal thing is ruined now

meh, it can be done better.
it's just not an original idea anymore.
but my honest impression is the idea would work much better with the smaller companies anyway...
