Another good example is the COG T-16. No tone issues there at all.

FWIW, I'm on my 13th BBR and floating vero board or not I've never had a reliability issue other than one bad bypass switch. Funny how so many vintage effects that people gush over all are vero or point to point and are still working perfectly, but somehow vero is "amateur hour" these days.

This isn't to say vero is better by any stretch but anyone who shuns a vero pedal becuase of vero is perhaps missing out on a great pedal.

I had a Mountainking which was all vero. Mountainkings are legendary.

My old 3ms's (noise swash, tremulus lune) are a rats nest of floating wires and parts but all sound fantastic. I think I bought them all in 2001 or so and they still work perfectly.

And as someone pointed out above SMD is sounding great on Moogs (and I agree). I don't think the new Moogs have the same raw power of the few Model D's, Rogues and MG-1's I've owned, but nevertheless the Moog sound is clearly still there. It just, to me, has a more hi-fi sound today that may or may not be because of the smd. Not being an engineer, I have no ability to make a judgement on that.

All respect to Bob but I will always pronounce it Moo-og.

Lol. My mom used to live in Trumansburg and was friends with Bob's wife. She would often see weird people coming in and out of their factory carrying wooden boxes. I guess those were early synths. Who knew that history was being made right there. Moog went to Bronx Science, my alma mater. Rod Serling lived in the same town too and my ma's would chill with him at the coffee shop every now and then. Looking back, Trumansburg must have been one interesting town.

SMD doesn't have a sound. It might be prone to failure if manufacturing is sloppy or QC is bad, and it might be harder to perform repairs but electrons are electrons and they don't care how nice a circuit looks from the outside.

I don't think SMD is more prone to failures, not any more than through hole. There is automate smd board population that can be messed up, just like automated through hole population or wave soldering can be screwed up. A small scale hand manufacturing operation can screw up/overheat/mess up SMD and through hole equally.

There is nothing wrong with vero or whatever, but 3-4 floating uninsulated vero boards in a tightly packed rate maze of wires will be more prone to failure than well assembled devices. Let's not compare a messy build with a Mountain king pristine vero build or like a D*A*M/Clorsound type of thing. It's not even close. A crappy vero build is not equal to a high quality vero build.

As for the SMD "sound", yup, totally agree with you MechaGodzilla. But, a lot of people confuse using the same spec SMD/Through Hole component with devices that have been redesigned to use SMD components that are VERY different from the original Through Hole components used. If you use components that now have very different specs, you'll have the same sound difference whether you are using SMD or through hole.

Which Moogerfoogers do you have/have you used?
AFAIK, the only ones that are SMD are the 105 and 108.

They've gone through revisions. I have a 102 that is smd.

I'd open mine up, but I am lazy. I also bought all mine used, so who knows how new/old they are.

The autistic in me wants to say it right, but I like the other way more tbh.
Owner of my fav local bar here was a close friend of that man, he refers to him as Bobby  , and he gave me this senseless lecture about how and why it should be pronounced as "Mog" and not "Mooog".

"Mog" as in, rhymes with log?
Or where it rhymes with load? :?: :poke:
