^^^ So many people selling amps on ebay say "message me about shipping" in the description. Then:

Hi, would you be able to send this to me? how much?
"SORRY NO SHIPPING ONLY COLLECTION"

Have you seen the Reuss Evil Twin? It's a vintage spec D+ and a semi-cintage spec Blue Box in one pedal, inspired by Rowland S Howard. The D+ also has internal dip switches to change the diodes between Germanium, Silicon and none. Pretty great pedal! Amazed I don't read more about it on ILF to be honest.

My buddy actually has one. I wasn't super impressed, but that was probably because I had trouble getting unity gain without maxing everything out. It's also not an expensive pedal, and he loves the blue box circuit.

That's classic D+, though. :idk:
Isn't that why the OCD/Voodoo OD added an output boost stage?

Not a problem with LED clipping (and no diodes I guess but idk what that sounds like)

I wish the gray channel were cheaper because that would be an all-in-one bass dirt for me

The OD250 is a perfect jump into DIY if you're so inclined.

There's a perf layout for the Grey Channel, too.

  I'll add that to my list of 'reasons I should learn to solder', right under "can't afford any more amp repairs"

I love the Grey Channel. I like the FET on the red side and the Si or Ge on the green side. Definitely a keeper pedal for me. :!!!: :!!!:

I have an old tan Ross Distortion I scored for $80 with the original box on Craigslist. Aside from the slightly annoying 1/8th inch power jack it's great. Besides, it states clearly on the bottom that expected battery life is approximately 1 year. I see them all the time for about $100. Maybe a little big, but it looks cool. I have a thing for the old Ross boxes. I also picked up a baby blue 10 band equalizer in a thrift shop at one point which is sweet looking too.

Whatever I'll try first (which'll take a while, I'm broke and drowning in dirt peds), it'll have to be somekind of D+ clone with a little extra gain and maybe a tone control :idk:

So yeah, can't really help, srry. I agree the demos of the the EQD Grey Channel don't sound too impressive imo :idk:

Hi there,

Reuss here. Please tell your buddy, he can switch the Evil Twin to assymmetric silicon clipping via the internal dip switches for much improved loudness. It's a different distortion texture from the 'stock mode' germaniums, though.

I am not making the Evil Twin anymore. Only kept the RSH going (which has now gotten a switchable C11 mod option to the blue box side). Alternatively, anyone looking for a louder Dist+ can check out my 'Old Black Shoe' model.
I initially made it for Rowland S. Howard's brother Harry, who wanted a stand-alone pedal featuring the dirt side of the RSH-pedal. But he also wanted a tone knob. And he wanted it louder and more suitable with bass too. So I came up with this. It features a hybrid germanium/silicon clipping arrangement, a very subtle tone control, only dialing off the most annoying highs and not muffling the sound - and I gave it a slightly fuller voice with improved low-end response. And, just for the hell of it, implemented a LM308H 'tin can' opamp (of RAT fame) for an extra awesome distortion texture. It's not really a Dist+ anymore, though, but it's definitely still in the ball-park. Mick Harvey is using it on stage at the ongoing tour with PJ Harvey.

Awesome post, Reuss, thanks for chiming in…

and while you're here, perhaps a subject for a different thread, how's the Recidivist coming along?
