Haha!
Like I said, one album is enough.

Unless it's a Mystick Krewe record, in which case:

Dear Mystick Krewe,
please make another album as soon as possible to show Opeth how this shit is done.
Many thanks.

Tbh I'm a little oversensitive to any synthesizers or keyed instruments in metal, but it's mostly a result of metalheads being too stupid to do awesome stuff with said instruments. For example, Deep Purple is a steaming pile of shit without a Hammond. The Summoning would be boring crap black metal without their Age of Empires midi soundbanks. There the music is written such that it is metal, and it happens to have guitars and it happens to have keyed instruments. No aspect is more important in the songwriting than any other, rather they are all integral. Most metal bands however make keyed instruments sound like they have no fucking clue what they are doing with it as a compositional tool, and it is mostly a way to hide uninspiring song writing. Even in cheezoid bands like Dream Theater, where the keys have always been a part of the music - Kevin whatshisface always made sure they played music that had guitars and keys. Derek Sherinian made the keys feel like another guitar, so that worked. Then Rudess came in and it feels like a bunch of guitarists and a keyboard dude playing swordfights with their instruments.

Opeth is for me definitely in the "lame songwriting, need additional spice, will jam some keys all over this" category.

I also really dislike 98% of all prog rock, so that doesn't help their cause.

Shit yeah, now I'm listening to Summoning's Old Morning Dawn for the first time in ages and I'm in a way better mood! (I made the mistake of playing the entire new Opeth album this morning. Totally soured my coffee).

Holy fuck, dude. I had forgotten how much I loved the Age of Empires soundtrack until you just mentioned it.

The new Opeth is their worst yet! And I like prog... I even like Opeth prog, but this new one is a major disappointment.
