Reverb and Muff. Love them both in my studio. In a band setting I need fuzz with some teeth, and reverb cane just create mud within a room with actual reverb.
That's the beauty of it sometimes though. Like we have a song where through the verses I literally just play the root note of the chords on various octaves, with modulation and reverb. Sounds really freaking great, and with three guitars in the band less is often more.

I don't know if I've found a type of effect that I like but haven't been able to use. That's probably because there are a lot of types of effects I just don't like, though (phaser, flanger, wah, chorus, ring mods, etc.). I mostly just use a ton of reverb and delay, with a pinch of distortion and tremolo. Oh, and loops.

Chorus/flange. Eh. The least interesting members of the modulation family.

I love the Boss Digital Dimension. Any other chorus can suck it.
I only like it because it sounds like a gross chorus. Not a nice one.

Very recently learned to love chorus after years of disliking it, but am still a long way away from using flanger in a remotely satisfying way.
Never got on with tubescreamers of any sort at all and seem to prefer just stacking Rats, because there are never enough Rats on a board. Wah is always gross to my ears and that video of Steve Albini's blues fatter, blues lawyer brother making "What is that smell?" faces to his wah pedal has made me want to start a petition to ban them entirely.

Chorus rules because it instantly time machines you to the 1980s and everything you play magically sounds like it would be a goth rock hit
(ps- wah pedals are the worst things ever invented)

I really kinda hate chorus. Over the past couple of years I've tricked myself into thinking I love it, but I just don't think it's the truth for me. My problem isn't that it sounds bad, more that it just sounds instantly 80s. I love 80s music, plenty of it involving chorus, but there's really rarely a time that I wanna sound like that.
The WVMkII reallly is a fantastic pedal.
Flangers? Almost worse? To me they sound equally 80s, but more specifically The Cure. Granted I do have a Boss BF-2 and it's super fun to put on and be Robert Smith for an hour, just goes back to the end of the first point—don't have any interest in sounding like that on a regular basis.
But that Alexander F13, tho...

Alexander re-popularized the effect though. Kind of not fair to bring them into this.

The way to use chorus and not hate it or roll your eyes thinking about 80s cliche...is have it set so you don't notice much of a difference...until you bypass the pedal. Never, ever playing any weedily-deedily shredsoloz also helps a lot, too. Obv
