I feel the same way. I actually can't even gauge shit from demos anymore. I used to be able to. Now I just try it and flip it. Whatever. If I like it, I like it. If it's too weird or complicated, I get bored quickly. I like weird stuff, but at the same time, I don't want to fuck with something for 10 hours to make it sound cool.

As much as we all make fun of you fo' yo' flippin', a lot of times it's really the only way to tell if you'll like something.

Instant gratification.

I will get wet pants when Bart posts a pic of a new geiger Counter e.g.
But 500 new mini Pedals, 100 3 knob delays, 1000 tubescreamer and crystal overdrives. I'm a pedalaholic - but fuck this shit.
Any amp manufacturer brings out a pedal line with boost, overdrive, distortion, delay. Wow. Finally i don't have to mix brands. Let's go Full engl. But please add the Tele, strat and paula rip off and some motherfucking cables to your Portfolio.
I'm not moaning about Bart! I just don't understand how there is a market for such a flood of standard pedals...
Please bring the Crazy shit. Springs, tubes, other concepts, built in sequencer, Midi or CV Control etc. but i'm pretty sure my whishes are niche. So are all of you suckers that Hang out here...

Well yes this for sure and just being able to achieve the tones that some demos produce.
I feel like a lot of demos are deceiving. For instance, I cannot for the life of me cop anything that Knobs does, so I don't even try. Kayzer, same thing usually (although how active is he anyway right now?). Or if a builder does a demo, I go "wow"! Then I get the pedal and say "what the fuck. How did they do that???"
It's frustrating to say the least. Especially as a bass player who likes to use unorthodox pedals for bass. There just are not enough good demos that show how to do the neat, fun shit with pedals that have a lot of menu diving or if there is, it leaves me confused and angry. LOL!
For instance. The Eventide interface is STUPID easy to use. So is Neuro from Source Audio. The Boss DD-500 however angers me. It's annoying and doesn't respond the way I want. Like fucking stay on the goddamn settings I tweaked before I turned you off you bitch ass!!! The Strymons were the same way for me.
There was an ongoing joke about how everyone wants an effects computer these days and it's true. I just can't get with it. I keep trying the complex digital stuff and I love the sounds, but hate the constant need to change shit. If they all had intelligent interfaces, it wouldn't be a big deal, but they don't.
Also re-gassing for the three knob. I mean it is a pedal I haven't tried....so you know. LOL

Knobs' or Kayzer's "demos" are useless to me as demos because they're more about the way those guys play than actually demonstrating what a pedal can do in the hands of most players.

I enjoy listening to 'em, but it's not gonna get me interested in a specific pedal. (Also, all of Knobs' & Kayzer's demos sound the same to me. And that's not a knock on what they do, it's more a result of how they play.) It's all in context.

I'm bass as well and find myself struggling to sound like a guitar.
I'm thinking about ditching MIDI. too much fucking around. Do I really need 122 presets for my Chase Bliss pedals? THeres a motherfucking switch so I have Live +2 settings already ON THE GODDAM PEDAL@@@@@@@@!

Not just them... have you ever listened carefully to Andy's PGS's dirt demo... fuzz, od, dist... in his hands they all sound the same. I'm not listening to demo as much as I used to.

Yeah, I agree. I was just using those two as an example because jwar brought them up.
A certain sameness creeps in. Whether that's due to the player or the pedal.

Andy picks with his fingers which completely changes how a lot of pedals sound.
Kayser just makes everything sound like a metal distortion.

The way all players make stuff fit into whatever their particular playing style is makes me trust written reviews a little more. Like, maybe it sounds great when Kayzer or Knobs or Andy plays it, but reading someone's actual review seems to strip away the player-bias a little for me.
