If you have to list 20 pedals on this thread, they you personally have never bonded with a pedal in the way this thread was looking for. Maybe someday you will. The answer to this question should not be difficult to come up with. If it has ever happened to you, you will already know the answer, with zero anguish or hedging.

Welllll... I dunno about the whole bonding thing; I just can't think of one effect that be my favorite of all time because no matter what, I'd get sick of it one way or another. People always ask these "desert island _______" questions, but you know what? Being on a desert island would 100% suck ass no matter what ideal thing you brought.

Sometimes I play with zero effects beyond an amp though, and it's fantastic and liberating. If I had to really pick one thing, I'd just say an amp with master volume and reverb.

Some of us do actually have these strange, metaphysical relationships with certain pedals in our chains, and I kinda guessed that was what we was talking about here. As noted, a best of all categories list should quickly turn into a list of your current board. But what specific pedals do you have this weird, symbiotic relationship with? You said AD-9 though, so I still love ya.

I am just amazed how any of you can say something like that about a fuzz. I've had so many I love I can't decide which is better

I totally get that, and I'm sorry I contributed to the derailment/expansion into "what's on your board?" I just saw that it was going that way and followed suit. God knows we've got plenty of those threads already

But yeah, I will say that the AD-9 is probably the pedal I've got the most connection with. It's among the ones I've owned longest, and it's easily spent the most time on boards. I bought it at Ludlow guitars when I was about 23 or 24, and it was certainly the first expensive/boutique pedal I ever bought. I remember feeling like I'd stepped into the big leagues or something. That's of course a bit ridiculous and hilarious, but it also just reinforces the sentimentality I have for it. I'll never get rid of the thing.

I'll also say that despite its name being in many, many ways sullied by hype and blooze-lawyer fixation, my Klon is very special to me. I bought it directly from Bill Finnegan when he was still selling them, and at the time it felt like such a cool experience. He wanted to you call him and actually have a conversation about what kind of guitar/amp you used, and what you were going for. He wasn't snotty about it, either—it felt more like he just realized he was selling an already pretty exorbitantly priced pedal, and seemed to care about whether or not it would be worth it for you. Nowadays that kind of direct contact with the builder is super commonplace, but back then it felt rare. Anyway, I really appreciated it and have continued to use the pedal more than any other OD. Of course it could have just been part of a masterful lore-building strategy on his part, in which case I fell for it hook line and sinker. Either way, those are my deeper connection pedal stories, and I'm stickin' to em.
