^ maybe not didn't really think it thru, but u might be able to use the x4 stereo ins and outs as like two separate channels/loops? might require some channel switching kinda box….maybe not worth it then even it would work…

anyway, i just scooped a 720 looper. anybody got one? likes? dislikes? haven't had a looper in ages. got it cuz i wanted to something to record full beats on in the wild (not actually use it as a looper). 12 minutes is enough for a handful of shorties. but thought i'd get this instead of like a digital recorder or 4track cuz its about the same size, faster and simpler to use and looper too obv.

also anyone seen this tc electronic riff recorder thing?. the videos are really dumb. "you can name your files ANYTHING YOU WANT!!!!!".
i like the push buttons on it tho. would be neat if you could use it as like a 1shot wav player to play over longer passages but i'm not sure if you can or not. :idk:

To me it's a great tool because you can get a lot of added sounds/parts by using the half speed, or arming it prior to recording and then turning it off for double speed. A part you recorded and played along with can become a new part or texture by dropping or raising the pitch. Especially with raising it, it becomes a new rhythm too.
That makes sense. I guess I just find myself more likely to record a part for use later in the song (that I don't want to play back immediately) than to overdub immediately after recording a loop. And the DL4 doesn't have any way to stop recording without automatically playing back. What would be really great is separate switches for "record/overdub", "play", and "stop", so you could do all of the above. I also find myself entirely avoiding overdubbing with the DL4 because everything but the most recent layer starts fading out when you overdub. *shrug* Either way, the DL4's staying on my board, and I like using the looper for "play once" stutters, but I definitely like the Ditto X4 better for most things.

This is still the correct answer to everything.

Im probably gonna get a ditto soon so I can loop into it with my dl4 and have the dl4 to tweek shit.

Or get a small board for stuff thats not DL4s and make my big board all DL4s.

The Rang III isn't that big.
The DL-4 is bigger.
And considering how powerful the Boomerang is, I don't think I is too big at all. It fits the front pocket of my pedalboard bag. :)

I can't really envision a situation in which recording something and playing it back once is going to be an issue unless the thing you want to record is a riff or progression that only plays for one bar before switching to something else. In that case, it makes sense. Otherwise, it would seem easy to just record the riff or progression - say two bars in to a four bar progression - and then just stopping it after playing through one bar, continuing to play the final bar on your guitar and then move to the next part.

The Timefactor's looper has the ability to go from record to stop and I think that is cool because if you fuck up a loop, you don't have to play it back. That is also the plus with the Headrush's looper is that you can continue to restart the record process if you botch a loop without having to play back the botched loop first, and then re-record the loop.

the folks at empress are adding a looper to the new reverb! with midi you get dl4 style looping and control. i'm gonna grab the dmc-6 when it comes out so i can have record/overdub, play, stop, undo/redo, 1/2 speed and reverse all on one page. i did this with a timeline before i sold it, best looper i've used by far. i have a ditto x2 which is great in it's own way but i don't like it as much since it doesn't go straight into overdub, something we've talked about ad nauseum.

But the Ditto X2 CAN go straight into overdub if you flip one of the dip-switches inside the pedal?

Wait.
The X2 has dip-switches?

Yeah! Just open up the battery compartment. Should be two switches there. Read the manual to see what they do.

Agreed. I was under the impression from photos that it was really big but when I got mine in the mail I was surprised by how small it was. It's that not that much bigger than say... an Eventide?
