On Archer the agency he worked for was ISIS and they just sort of quietly stopped talking about it in Season 5.

Yes, this is literally my opinion of Thrice.
Fire was... well, fire. "Firebreather" is fucking tight live. Lost a shoe moshing to that one

Did they not get investigated by both the CIA and IRS, attempt to bribe their way out and then have to disband the organisation, only to move onto dealing cocaine back to cartels in the next season?
Also, I think it's bullshit that people can't handle the fact that the name of an Egyptian goddess, that is thousands of years older than the name of this loose band of shitbags, has been appropriated and should be fucking reclaimed by those of us with half a brain and a basic education.

There's some very important differences but the point is somewhat valid.

Yeah, I've seen the swastika in a Buddhist context and not batted an eyelid. Would I go and get it tattooed with a mandala and an Om character?
If we censor our freedom to use symbols or words, it's usually because we are aware that not everyone is up to speed on their origins and the weight of their intended meanings in those contexts.
But the name Isis should not immediately bring to mind some kind of bizarre and faceless collection of non-westerners in balaclavas.
We should call them "team shitbag" or something.
It has cultural and historical weight as a concept beyond that. Hopefully in a few years with hindsight we can all regain some sense and it will be something of an historical footnote that their official abbreviation happened to coincide with the name, but that Team Shitbag became the term the group that committed nonsensical acts of violence and stupidity in the name of a book nobody really wrote to take seriously were known by.

So I want to buy some fucking music. This thread has got me wanting it hard. Like in my loins.
On the list (I don't own any albums by these folks but like their music)
Old Man Gloom
Neurosis (I know right?)
Ocean (maybe)
Any other suggestions?

I would do CDs, myself. As far as Neurosis goes I can't recommend Through Silver in Blood enough, but they have several other astonishingly good records.
As for suggestions, you can't go wrong with Cult of Luna. They fucking slay:

Pelican as well, but they aren't at the same caliber as ISIS and Neurosis.
Also a bit different (more straight-forward metal structures), but still goddamn amazing is Kowloon Walled City.

Yeah they (the show writers) kinda coped out of the ISIS name by writing in the CIA investigation and everything, but Archer Vice and everything after have been so goddamn funny that you don't even miss it. Still one of my favorite shows.

I mean it was probably watching the whole record live but SOTH really grew on me. Initially, though, Salvation was the record that made me go "oh, ok, they don't just sound like Isis"
