GHS and Ernie Ball strings were the only stocked brands in the small shop in the city in the late '90s when I started playing maltreating guitar. No week passed without a broken string. Then I switched to Fender, Dean Markley brought another improvement, but after some years I sound my best solution in D'addario's Pro Steel series which are cheap, sturdy and IMO great sounding.

Ernie ball slinkies, d'addario sometimes. i have been meaning to try rotosound caue they are the rock n roll strings. For bass I use 110s exclusively, though I should really get skinnier ones for my shortscale (it has some brand flats right now that are obviously too big for the poor thing). For guitar I do 46-10s now. I used to have 52-10s or 52-11 but I decided to try using regular 10s as an act of traditionalism and I kinda dug it. However missed the physicality of thicker strings so I raised my action and shimmed my nut to be "basically unplayable" instead to get more resistance but keep the feel. Way back I used to do crazy shit and put on 54-13s meant for acoustics.

D'Addario NYXL 10-46 is my default go-to these days, but i have a couple guitars that i wanted to get fancy with, so i put Gabrel Tenorio Super 10 NíquelPuro on them. the jump in quality and longevity is definitely noticeable.

for bass, i use GHS flatwounds & probably will never have to change strings again.

Lately I've been top wrapping with D'Addario Light Gauge Chrome Flats, 12-52. I'm in B standard tuning on a Les Paul.

I'm pretty happy with them. They keep my fingers quiet and the reduced harmonic content on the lower tuned strings sounds more pleasing and clearer to me in high gain situations. Also that wound third makes all my chords sound beefy as hell.
