Picking pedals based on looks is just a foreign concept, it really is.

I didn't pick my pens based on how they looked when I wrote with ink either - all I cared about was what they made!
Haha, I did play guitar about twenty years ago. I'm 36. Guitar into amp, or actually mostly acoustic. Effects were foreign to me, until one of my friends brought a Green Russian Small Stone to rehearsal one day. Blew my mind.

And I also draw and write on paper. With ink, or pencil, even.

You're not the only old guy here! ;)

Heh, I had the luxury of effects before I started playing, but I was recording friends and doing live sound before I picked up an instrument.

And those little boxes were *why* I picked up the instrument, boring old guitar did nothing for me by itself.

I'm 33 (34 in July) and I DID play guitar 20 years ago. I also played with one pedal that I could have gave a fuck less what it looked like. hah. I totally agree with this.

I usually just flip a pedal if I am not using it on any of the many instruments I fuck around with. If it doesn't sound good on bass, polysynths, monosynths, drum machines, or tape loops, what the turn am I doing with it? If it does one specific thing that another broader pedal does better and there is no reason to have two, buh-bye. If i get it for a musical project that never takes off and I don't need it for anything else, or if it fails to impress me after multiple tries. Sometimes i will try a pedal once a week or once a month. I don't need more shit, libraries sound cool, but I would rather actively contribute to making the music i am making at a moment. Right now i will probably get more ise out of a midiverb 2 or other cheap stereo racks than I will most things, so that is prolly what I will get.

I'm 24, I'm just irresponsible.

Also, I've been working full time in music for like 4 years now, so I can sorta justify the expense.
