The Dr. Sci Frazz Dazzler can give you a lot of splat and crackle at low-gain settings. Works great as a weird light overdrive.

Ohhh, yeah!!
Also, high gain mode with gain on zero and a little volume roll off is total glitchy crackle. Blend in some clean for a little more sustain

I love my Mini and I love the FuckOD.

The mini will do all that EQ stuff ya want though for sure
I need to watch some demos of the Magick I! Just saw it while looking at their website.

I had a mini and am trying to remember how I liked it. I think I loved it, but wanted the money for something else... maybe that's what I'll do again.

If the rat doesn't cut the mustard tomorrow at practice I'll drop you a PM.
When I'll have the time, I'll record Something with the Magik "I".

Nobody mentioned the Harmonic Percolator? It's a brilliant OD on low gain without the diodes, great with any instrument.

I'm now more confused than before. Looks like we are kicking out one of the three guitar players in the band, which may mean I am not playing the downtuned guitar anymore as we will need to rework a few songs, and to further complicate the subject, I just received a Mr Black Deluxe Plus, and just having the low guitar with a little spring reverb and them going felt like all it needed without any extra dirt. Looks like this will be an ongoing investigation

I really dig the V1 OCD for gritty lightly broken up lower gain OD. I used one with a Turbo Rat in my main band for years. Then I caught the 'band broke up wtf am I going to do now guess I'll just buy all the pedals' thing.

the low frequencies were probably overloading your amp up a bit, without the downtuning your signal cleans back up. probably why you felt you only needed modulation.
