I like to keep my box.
I prefer to purchase with box... no velcro and pubic hair... but no box is not a deal breaker.

I've legit torn off good half inch chunk of flesh off my thumb peeling velcro, which is why I use a tiny plastic spatula to help me now. I don't want go through that shit again, especially since I wasn't able to play guitar for a good month.

Almost the same here! Nowadays I also avoid using my fingers for that procedure. If you have a BOSS pedal or another one with a thick rubber bottom you can use sandpaper to get rid of the last remaining stupid pieces of velcro residue.
