Especially on a dynamic instrument such as a guitar it IS a good idea imo. Makes the control of the pedal much more intuitive I think. You want whacky? Hit harder! That makes much more sense to me than stomping on a momentary. Especially since you can send the whack into overdrive by turning on a fuzz or compressor that will take everything you play over the threshold. On the Judder I learned how to set and how to control the envelope pretty quickly so that I know how to play in order for it to kick in. Now maybe the control on the Particle doesn't work as good, but if you set the envelope to where it doesn't hear you unless you hit the strings hard and WANT it to hear you it is superior to any footswitch.

And if you activate by accident then it's just sloppy playing.

Have you played a Particle? I have no problem with it on the Judder either (see demo), but try taking the 'chop' to noon or close to where it freezes (that's when the samples are at their yummiest) and talk about sloppy playing.

And what do you do when you want the effect without all the characteristics that come with playing harder or turning on a fuzz? Answer: momentary!

Oh yeah, I should definitely get a Super Flutter!

You'd be surprised dude. Maybe not with the dad rock (seewhatididthere) you're doing now but you can do some really cool harsh things with the Raptio (and, I assume the others) that aren't necessarily highlighted in the demos floating around presently.

Not here, you're not. This is the kind of pedal I'd get because of the neat-o factor... use it for 5 minutes, and then realize that I'm never going to use it and flip. I love pedals like these, but they just don't work with the music I write/play.
Except for maybe a bar of an intro/outro... stuff like that. But I find that I tend to be conscientious about overusing a distinctive effect like that. I try to avoid it because I know when I see other bands do it, it's like... "yeah.. okay.. I get it..." and it tends to be a put-off.

nothing can replace a ct5. that thing has fractals in it.

Yeah I get what you mean, I love the envelope control but having momentary AS WELL and being able to use both would open new worlds of amazing. I didn't find it a big problem triggering stuff accidentally but for some settings I suppose it would be an issue. Plus, I was never playing live and aiming to recreate stuff with the particle when I had it so any cool noises it made I was pretty much always happy.

Stutter -> CT5 is one of my favorite things to do though. Also applies to choppy trem, I wish I still had my Goatkeeper to play with it.

I do most of the stuff with my dd-5 in Hold mode, less the pitch stuff. Pretty neat pedal though. I'd like to see what else it can do.

This so much. I see people just copping the same trick over and over that it almost becomes a hinderance to my writing. Like I can't use an effect too similarly in two songs too close together. My riff writing is already really similar, can't have my pile of gear making it worse.

I listened to it again...I don't even think it sounds all that cool. My wife said "that sounds like shit" and she is (or was) a dandy warhol fan and she likes it when I mess with the boss hold modes or the super flutter.

I'm sure some better sounds will be coaxed out of it though.

I think these have their places though and like other people have said they can get old. Just got to get creative with them. Phasers and flangers get old when they just sit there and warble for a too long too. Like I can use a raptio for some ring mod running it into distortion. Or the judder as a modulation pedal. I like the super flutter almost as a quick riff accent and pitch shifter. I think they get over used in the melt banana way (which I think sounds awesome)...but there are more creative ways to use them. I kind of think of them as my tremolo sometimes.

Okay, I gotta derail and ask how you're getting the glitchy goodness out of these algorithms so I can explore them some more.

Ultratap can't do glitchy stuff by itself, but it will cover all your stutter needs and more.

The best thing IMO is that every knob is controllable by MIDI, so need to bend over and adjust things, but in a table top and some external controller you could get a lot of fun too.

Harpeggiator is where the glitch madness is though, just set every knob to RNDM. If you want to get something more musical then start "decomposing" by setting fixed values instead, one by one.

Timefactor is such a great pedal. I've had like 3. Looper is really good.

Saw this post earliet. Looked around for a 2nd band TF out of curiosity. Found a new and minty one with an aux switch oh so cheap, curiosity turned to GAS, said fuck it, sold my DL4 and Afterneath and bought it. In like 4.5 hours.
