I've always wanted to try the Mastery/Staytrem stuff but man, I don't wanna fuck with that behind the bridge magic. For most people that's not really a concern and that's cool but just not for me. I wish I knew someone with the upgraded stuff to try them out and see if there's actually any effect.

i feel ya there. i know nels cline gets down with a mastery bridge and hes a wizard with a jazzmaster so i'm thinking it must not be all that bad? I'll be able to comment soon enough, i already got shipping confirmation from staytrem!

All the hype says mastery bridges increase sustain, so the only way it would fuck with behind the bridge action would be more sustain/resonance me thinks?

The behind the bridge decreases traditional guitarist-think "sustain" - it's an overtone and a presence, but it's not a big chugga chugga crunch Les Paul sustain.

The Mastery stuff puts it more in hardtail range to my ears - somewhere between the TOM here it's somewhat present depending on how you dial it in, and the traditional jangle thud splatty of the normal bridge.

I don't understand -- changing the bridge somehow sucks all the mojo out of a guitar, but a synth pickup is okay?

I put a mastery on my AVRI jag.
Better sustain, tension- more like a "proper" guitar!
I took it off a year later, and put back on the jag bridge with mustang saddles.
The mastery kind of sterilised the harmonic shenanigans of the jag. I also preferred the gentler bend of the rocking bridge to the string sliding-over-chrome-saddle-fixed-bridge of the mastery.

I also use a staytrem collet. This is the best thing ever.

Synth pickup doesn't affect the behind the bridge resonance at all. If it did, I'd pull it off!

I've put both the staytrem bridge and the staytrem trem arm on my jazzmaster, and I highly recommend both!

for those wanting to keep the vibe of the jazzmaster (behind the bridge sound etc.) the staytrem bridge is a good choice. you get the same great sound but your strings now stay where they should!

What's the difference between a Jaguar bridge and a Mustang bridge, besides the saddles?

I just checked my cp and it does have the TOM already, so does my j mascis jazzys. Maybe I'll focus on the bass vi then, or my jvri jazzmaster.

For what it's worth I changed my jag from a TOM to a staytrem and it made a BIG difference to the sound and intonation, sounded loads better. I actually get loads more behind the bridge goodness out of it now with the staytrem. But then my jag had a TOM in as a mod rather than being made with it, so maybe the CP and J Mascis don't have any problems that need fixing.

Well I got a staytrem, staytrem bass vi, mastery bridge and vibrato. They were super easy to install and set up, I put the new mastery vibrato on my bass vi too and really like it over the stock vibrato....I never did like the stock vibrato on the bass vi for some reason compared to the same? vibratos used on my avri jazzy and jaguars? I don't know why, anyways it was super easy to swap and set up. Overall I can't tell much of a difference regards behind the string antics, but I guess I could put lighter strings on now. Was a pretty inexpensive way to inject some fun. Thanks for all the input. Now I'm interested in swapping out the pickguard/electronics of the pawnshop bass vi and making it a traditional bass vi.
