Re: Strange Tales Distro
Sorry to go off topic a bit....but I loved My Brain Hurts, Kill the Musicians, and Boogadaboogadaboogada!...then my friend's little brother showed me Emo and I was shocked how bad it was haha (we were in a band together and he was 2 years younger...so he picked up the new SW cd haha...asked me why I liked that stuff! ). I thought they were still doing the Riverdales thing (that I didn't dig either). News moved slow in those days haha. (just skimmed it on youtubes...not as terrible as I remember...damn, I am liking some SW again...forgot about Anthem for a new tomorrow and How to make enemies and irritate people ... damn, getting sentimental...haha My Brain Hurts is still my favorite though)
Side note on a side note: Have you read that Lookout! Records book (about it's rise and fall)...I just barely found out about some of the rumors of badness with them around last year at some point (ignored everything about punk except for Japanese and Anarcho varieties for a long time...some grind and fastcore got some attention too). Was just curious if it was any good?
I gotta pick that CD up from ya at some point. Thanks for the rediscovery ST!

Re: Strange Tales Distro
I have not read that Lookout! Records book at all, but I'm aware of the general story at least. I don't know how you could ignore good ol' pop-punk though! Unless you were listening to Snuffy Smiles stuff, in which case we're all good then. If you're into pop-punk, you should check out Shipyards and Turncoat. Shipyards "About Lights" is a hidden pop-punk classic in my eyes.

Re: Strange Tales Distro
Yo, so a couple days ago I got the best album of 2015 in my distro. It's Fredelica's new album "Gaitou." Make no mistake about it, this is the best hardcore album this year, and probably the best hardcore album of the best five years. I haven't heard something this good in such a long time.
I also got a demo in from a new band called Nikka. You might remember me posting about them a couple months back. It's post-hardcore with female vocals, definitely a great new band you should keep your eyes on.

Oh wow, I haven't bumped this thread in 3 months. I've got a ton of new shit in, and I'm like 95% done translating an interview.

Re: Strange Tales Distro
I actually really disliked the book. It was written by and for people completely immersed in the acts and mythos surrounding the label. Half of the book is "then this band release This and this album and it was awesome" with not a lot of content psst that. That and it was all over the place as far as info organization. I was a bit disappointed. On the upside, it literally did sound like if all of the people interviewed were sitting on a room with you drunkenly telling you the story, which goes with the theme.lordgalvar wrote:Side note on a side note: Have you read that Lookout! All orders will go to The Center Orlando to help people who have been effected by the terrible events.

Re: Strange Tales Distro
Hey so it's been a really long time with this. I just posted an interview with my friend's band Vanishing Twin, and I plan on releasing their EP in the US sometime in the next two months.
You can read the interview here:

Also, new distro stock will be coming in the next month. Weeee.

What's the status of the distro, Strange? Will you stop once you move?

Re: Strange Tales Distro
It's not dead, just on lengthy hiatus until my I normalized myself. Which is about 2 days ago so far. I am going to email some things I've had standing still and hopefully move forward. We'll see about a release or two this year. Have to get the ball rolling once I stop.
As for stopping once I move, probably not. It's hard to keep it as an American Distro for Japan when I'm in Japan though lol. I was thinking of trying to hook up with another label and seeing if I could do a partnership or something where I funnel releases to a central distro overseas, or something like that. First step is moving though!

If there's anything I can contribute with on this, both now and once you jump oceans, let me know. I would love to get involved.
