I don't think that's the case on behalf of the performer in this instance -- It's not akin to an Andy Kaufman skit or anything.

Like a hat or something, not a plastic bag... And I'm playing my instrument and stomping/tweaking my boxes, not just creating a drone/monotone noise and taking my hands off the wheel. Not that it's anything wrong with that, it's just not what I meant or what I do.D.o.S. wrote:UglyCasanova wrote:I just wear some kind of headgear that blocks out the audience/my face and look down for 95% of the show.![]()

I mean you're talking about a project where the 'rules' are "no dynamics, no change, no development, no ideas" so it's to be expected to some degree?
Either way, now you know what Vomir steez is. I'mma come to the EU ILF meetup and bring you a plastic bag.

So... this Vomir guy is serious, then? It's not a joke?D.o.S. wrote:I don't think that's the case on behalf of the performer in this instance -- It's not akin to an Andy Kaufman skit or anything.

Not any more of a joke than, say, writing lyrics like "I try on my blue shirt she told me she liked it, once."
My suspicion is that Vomir, unlike Dashboard guy, has an acknowledgement of the humor involved -- he's making anti-music and handing out rubbish bags for people to put on their heads, after all, but that's not at all the same thing as taking the piss.

See, you've got the wrong idea. Morrissey IS a cunt, and The Smiths don't suck.
Anyway, back to Vomir... its either a joke, or it's rubbish, so I guess the bags are appropriate.

Don't get upset because you don't understand the phrases you use. It's a learning process.

I understand phrases just fine...D.o.S. wrote:Don't get upset because you don't understand the phrases you use. It's a learning process.
Anyway, all I'm saying is, there's no craft to it at all. It's literally just a loop of white noise and a guy standing there. Which is fine. John Cage made a piece of music that was literally just silence imbued with the ambient noise of the performance venue. But there's a point where you can't really take that stuff too seriously. It has an inherent element of being a joke, yes? To make people think about the nature of music? Or what music is and isn't, can and can't be? If he thinks he's making music that anyone would actually listen to it's a bit of a stretch. He must be meta about it.
Go ahead and mock Dashboard all you want. It's cool to be all sly and ironic with a sneer (or a bag over your head)... but at the end of the day I'd really rather have an earnest songwriter who just sings me his or her diary. It's harder to do well and it means more to me.
Like... for example. Merzbow. Merzbow means a lot to me taken as an artist, as a discography, as a performer, etc. But can I point to one song or album by Merzbow that I'd take to a Desert Island with me...? No, it's not really much, speaking strictly as music. Whereas "Remember To Breathe" actually perfectly encapsulates some moments in my high school life and brings back a flood of memories. I would definitely take MTV Unplugged 2.0 with me if I could only pick a handful of albums.

You've got your wikipedia game on lock, go look him up and decide for yourself. All I'm saying is that you're going "LOL it's taking the piss" is misunderstanding and misusing the phrase, because it's fairly obvious that it isn't.
Weird that you can say Merzbow means a lot to you while you decidedly don't get Vomir. One would think 'getting it' was part and parcel unless you'd read that Merzbow was important and hadn't heard the same about Vomir.

Ah but I can [Sphere], where as whatever you are talking about would be left behind in whatever water craft brought me to said island from an obvious apocalyptical happening that we all know might be coming.casecandy wrote:I understand phrases just fine...D.o.S. wrote:Don't get upset because you don't understand the phrases you use. I would probs bring Minazao vol. 1 that's like 'the Merzbow record' for me.
