Yeah it really did kinda surprise me... it just had never really occurred to me that I could try the guitar volume knob approach with keys. I think the real question now is if the same sort of thing happens with the volume output of a more oscillator based or digital synth.

Coming at it as a total novice, I kinda think they wouldn't behave in quite the same way because the signal character/tonality stays pretty uniform with those kinds of keys as you turn down, vs something like a guitar knob that loses both volume and some tonality, or for lack of a more scientific term, "oomph." Would love someone with better circuit knowledge to set me straight here...

It doesn't really work with fuzzes that respond to input impedance (i.e. fuzz face) but with the rest you can roll back the fuzz with the volume control just like a guitar.
