75% of Steven Spielberg movies.. the other 15% are in fact unmatchable.

I absolutely love Godzilla. Not just the rubber suit ones, but the absolutely terrible Matthew Broderick one. I've seen it so many times since I was a kid, and watch it very time it on tv.

I love bad, cheesy horror and sci fi movies, but hate the trend of trying to make bad movies. Now that liking bad movies is so popular,it seems like people are trying way too hard to make bad movies. Syfy movies used to be great, now they're just bad on purpose, which bores the hell oh of me. But I'm a grump.

My man.
That and Rad is well, fucking rad!
Gleaming the Cube is actually a good movie, with a cool 80s skate vibe.

This thread is more my speed instead of the Netflix one. I hold the superlative for watching the absolute worst movies/tv/media of anyone I know.
The first one may still be on Netflix. When I first watched it, I had to leave a voicemail to my friend saying "I have reached the logical conclusion of life" because this was so great! Highly recommended; I watched the whole series in one night.
Flesh for the Beast: Tsukiko's Curse - 2013
Trailer

SCIENCE CRAZED - 1991 (whole movie is on youtube somewhere)
Trailer

One 'important' scene for that sample & hold soundtrack
NSFW: show

I posted about this film before but THE NEW BARBARIANS - 1983 (highly recommended. MAD MAX: ROAD WARRIOR Italian derivative film...awesome score...one of the few films I have seen with a rhythmically edited man-on-man rape scene). I saw this projected on a big screen but it is also on Prime and Youtube. Some of the directors other stellar work is on Prime. Truly an auteur.

More Enzo G. Castellari (fun fact, director of THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS [another derivative film])
1990 BRONX WARRIORS - 1982 (obviously an ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK/THE WARRIORS derivative film) also on Prime.
NSFW: show

I have thousands more...

There's a treasure trove here. I listen to this podcast a lot, and try to get to the movies before I listen.

What was the movie where the cold open is a baby getting mauled and killed by a Rottweiler? Was it a Penelope Spheeris movie?

Cannot believe Zardoz isn't on this list, either. That deserves its own thread.

Watched this on Shudder last week. SLIME CITY - 1988. I would tag it as 'Charming but not recommended core' and 'Heroine saves the day in panties-wave'

I had a record store in the early 2000s. I found a distributor selling these bundle packs of kung fu, blaxploitation, and B-movie trash. I'd just sit there all day, chain-smoking and watching terribly-acted and dubbed movies. Of course I only had a couple of customers a day, so it was a bittersweet and fairly depressing time.

Also, where the fuck is David "The Rock" Nelson in this thread?

---I used to really enjoy the Substitute films with Treat Williams. Seagal stopped being a not-so guilty pleasure after the sexual harassment accusations and the whole fellating Putin thing.

Speaking of The Room, my friend is an artist in SF and he got to paint a mural in the apartment where it was filmed. I don't think he met Tommy Wiseau, but at the time, he still owned and leased the building.

Stay away from Shock Waves (1977). The pacing is so brutally slow, that it's unwatchable. I don't recommend it even for a viewing party. There were no great one-liners or anything redeeming that I can recall.

If you can get some friends together, who are patient and appreciate irreverent, sub-titled films, look for Battlefield Baseball. It takes quite a while to get to the payoff, but if you make it there, you will be rewarded. It was somewhat tedious to watch, but when you get to the turning point, it's amazing. It's not something for solo viewing though. You need friends and possibly adult party favors to get there, but it's one of my favorite, late-night group films of all-time. ---I strongly recommend not viewing any trailers or reading any slug lines. Just watch it with some friends.

rustywire wrote:As a kid I was mesmerized by the 80s horror movie cover/poster art, and used to regularly spend time admiring displays at the local Grand Union supermarket, which used to rent video tapes and Nintendo games.
As an adolescent I had cable tv in my bedroom & used to watch USA Up All Night with Gilbert Gottfried or Rhonda Shear. Fond memories watching films like The Toxic Avenger while chatting with pals on Prodigy/AOL when I should have been in bed :bear:
As a young adult, in the early 00s I worked in the video store that had been a previous hangout spot; back when they still existed in everytown USA. Watched so much crap there, stuff so bad it's good, some that should be destroyed, and others that are so fun I have no idea how anyone can hate on them. Dystopian future/post-apoc/weird outerspace/sci-fi style movies are probably my favorite style of "shitty movies"
Yes to Judge Dredd...but Demolition Man and Timecop are much better examples.
After watching so many movies is it hard to watch movies now? I mean, there are only so many plotlines and most movies follow certain formulas. Do you find yourself, early mid or mid movie saying "I know where this goes ..." and end up bailing?

I saw these two gems over a year ago.
STAINED GLASS WINDOWS - 2010 (Despite the poor production value and moronic plot...the protagonist actually comes to pretty profound life conclusions. I would challenge anyone to figure out what it is they 'need in life' and 'what it is that makes you happy' as quickly as this character did [yeah yeah it's a movie])

Some of these actually have some 'cred' to them...
COMBAT SHOCK - 1986
Image
The above was directed by Buddy Giovinazzo who went on to direct LIFE IS HOT IN CRACKTOWN (that movie is not fun. More sad than anything V  V). He was influenced by the below directer.
DRILLER KILLER - 1979 (Abel Ferrara is in my pantheon tier of directors and this is not ironically one of my favorite movies)
Image
And those movies took place in NYC while it was a DUMP...not a horror movie...but so did this gem (appearance by Debbie Harry made is this film)

some grade a shit movies! love it.

i use to watch all those shark movies when i was in london...there was a channel called Si-Fi...every night there was a shit movie like that.

the best of the bunch for me was 2-Headed Shark Attack...i think the whole movie was based on someone's thought having two sharks splitting someone in half...and that's the money shot of the whole movie

As someone who has read lots of De Sade...this did not live up to the tagline. Not very good. But you only watch Andy Milligan movies with for the undercurrent of misanthropy and mean spiritedness. This did not deliver. That said, I love the degraded color correction and Andy Milligan's "Swirl" Camera technique.
Image
This is the superior film from his oeuvre. Full blown misanthropic. Not a nice movie.

I suck at posting. The above movies have some cult appeal and 'cred'. I need to go back to my diet of pure garbage "nothing redeeming-core".
