I've noticed a lot of people plugging straight into their wah, putting it first in the chain....isn't this a like a classic mistake? I mean I know no rules are absolute, but from what I always heard about conventional pot wahs was that they put a load on your pickups in a bad way when they are first in the chain and unbuffered. I dunno that true? Seems like when I had a crybaby, I could always notice it in the signal chain even when it was bypassed, unless my buffered distortion pedal in front of it was on. So school me.
anyway, I'm not running a buffer anymore in my chain and all my pedals, including the incoming Wilson Freaker are true-bypass so I guess none of this should matter for me? Do you guys like to run your wahs first in the chain?
what wah do you like?

Re: what wah do you like?
I like my wah after my dirt and fuzz. But some interesting sounds can happen if you put some dirt after wah. A crunchy germanium diode overdrive can sound cool after the wah. The sweep of the wah will be reduced and compressed somewhat. As far as buffers go, if you have a lot of true bypass pedals in your chain a buffer is actually a good thing. I have a buffer after my dirt/fuzz and another at the very end of my chain. If you only have a 5-7 true bypass pedal chain a buffer won't be necessary. Though putting one at the end would probably give you a solid signal with all the frequencies intact. Nice highs, lows and mids.tuj wrote:I've noticed a lot of people plugging straight into their wah, putting it first in the chain....isn't this a like a classic mistake? I like the wah-ing done by Swervedriver
I don't like using wah, personally. It just doesn't work for me, with my playing style. Or something. Maybe I really do suck at wah. Whatever
I find manual-sweeping a phaser to be much more interesting/effective in my rig.
That's mostly how I use the Effectrode phase-O-matic deluxe. In the parked, heel-down position it yields a throaty mid-shift that's very flattering to any of my preferred fuzzes in front. I can get numerous vowel timbres; WOW, wah, woo, eee-ooo, ooo-eee. All interesting in their own right, but those sounds are so stackable.

Seriously though I see no love for the Buddah Wah. Picked one up a bit ago and am waiting on a extra long 9mm barrel cable to connect it to my VooDoo labs power plus 2 and start playing with it since I've finished up version 3 of my pedal board.

I usually go dirt > wah > dirt
The distortion after wah is good for more subtle, the distortion before takes you into the gnar zone.
Older Mammatus is probably my favorite for far out wah abuse.

I also really like the guy from Aluk Todolo's use of wah. Very extreme and awesome. More like a giant filter sweep than a regular wah sound.

It's an auto wah/filter. Not like the standard manual wah in a treadle enclosure.DocD3F4U17 wrote:some other dude on another forum say the Qtron is real wah wah but not a wah pedal
