Re: I really love how no one talks about the new Pink Floyd.

Love that movie. Really enjoy the 'Directors Cut' too, for when I'm not trying to watch the whole thing straight through.

You speak the truth, good sir.D.o.S. wrote:They're basically three distinct bands, and the post-syd pre-DSOTM Floyd is the only one that isn't totally bent by a singular songwriter, which is part of what makes it so interesting/inconsistent, particularly compared to pre '68 and post '73. Like, The Gold It's In The... is just so 'not' The Floyd, you know?Eivind August wrote:I got Pink Floyd at the Playhouse Theatre at some festival, it sounds great.
I love the stuff they did up to and including dsotm, with Meddle, live portion of Ummagumma and most of Obscured by Clouds being the favourites. I think of Piper at the Gates of Dawn as almost a different band, but it's one of my favourites as well. A Saucerful of Secrets and Atom Heart Mother are great albums also. So yeah, up to dsotm. Wish you were here and Animals are cool, and I like the Wall, but it's not what I think about when I think of teh Floyd.
Can we talk about this phenomenon plz? Incredibly infuriating.DarkAxel wrote:lol my review came out with an opposition review from another editor. Who gave it a 5/7 and said it's a great ambient(ish) album
i don't mind the fact that there's an accompanying review. I just think that person has yet to hear a good album like that

You heard me.D.o.S. wrote:bigchiefbc wrote:I think Piper is also criminally OVERrated.

Because I only like 2 (ok I guess 3) songs on it?D.o.S. wrote:I don't know -- I feel the same way about Led Zeppelin, so I can't really come at you with any temerity beyond "This is a self-evidently great record and I have no real idea how you could think otherwise"
what exactly?D.o.S. wrote:Can we talk about this phenomenon plz? Incredibly infuriating.DarkAxel wrote:lol my review came out with an opposition review from another editor. Who gave it a 5/7 and said it's a great ambient(ish) album

That's fine, except that all the songs you think are bad are secretly awesome, like Stethescope and Chapter 24 and Flaming and Bike and The Scarecrow and Matilda Mother And Pow R Toc H.bigchiefbc wrote:And thus why I feel it is constantly overrated.
We could call it The Rule of The Sword, where a person who hasn't dabbled in a genre to any satisfying degree hears something that's representative of the style but is not, generally speaking, very good, and is compelled to function under the mistaken assumption that the album isn't actually a crock of shit, simply because they haven't heard anything better.DarkAxel wrote:what exactly?D.o.S. wrote:Can we talk about this phenomenon plz? Well, you can't argue with logic like that.D.o.S. wrote:That's fine, except that all the songs you think are bad are secretly awesome, like Stethescope and Chapter 24 and Flaming and Bike and The Scarecrow and Matilda Mother And Pow R Toc H.bigchiefbc wrote:And thus why I feel it is constantly overrated.
So if we accept the premise that the songs you'd leave off the album are fucking fantastic, because they are and it's about as inarguable as gravity, then you'll see why the record is so good. QED.![]()
