EMAIL UPDATE DUDES
Hi guys,

I'll be selling 8 Anti-Nautilus (nautilii?) next saturday (nov 1st) at 12PM (eastern). $275 US each, not including shipping ($30 ish).

I've decided to do this a bit differently this time. Seeing how the demand will likely be much greater than what I can supply at the present, I'll start taking names of interested people who have the intention of buying for an hour *as of that time*. So on nov 1st, at 12PM eastern, I'll send a new email giving the go. So between 12PM and 1PM, send me an email and I'll add you to a temporary list. Then after the time has elapsed, I'll randomly choose 8 from the list who will be able to buy one. This will allow people with possibly slower email a better chance. So, a recap, and more info:

- 8 for sale on nov 1st.
- Send email between 12PM and 1PM eastern if interested and ready to pay via paypal. But wait for me to send a new email before you send one.
- I will also post this on facebook at the same time.
- Please do not ask to reserve one before then. I can't do reservations.
- Pedal uses a common 9VDC barrel plug (boss/ehx type) adapter which is not included. I've tried including them in the past but have had bad luck with the quality of OEM/noname adapters. If you are not sure what adapter to use, ask me!
- I don't know when more will be available. I'm on vacation until january, so maybe before then.
- For those reading this on FB, if you are not on the mailing list already, it can be signed-up to at the top of my site (which is badly needing an update) - http://www.soniccrayonfx.com/
I'm going to bow out of this round. Hope some ILFers get lucky! :joy:

Despite my hefty bass amp expenditures, I'll be full steam on to this one. :!!!:

Although, since it's essentially a lottery, I probably won't be able to get one. :grumpy:

Yeah it's a crap shoot but I like this approach a lot more than a frantic F5 free for all.

exactly this. instead of the frantic rush I have no doubt happens every time people get the urge to buy my contraptions, they can take their time, drink coffee, eat lunch, then hit send.

it's still not ideal, but well, hm. these fucking pedals DO take a bit out of me to build. :(

I can understand, it's been taking me months to even start learning to make pedals due to my job. Especially now with a looming deadline... @n@

How long does it take you to assemble one of these start to finish?

Hard to tell, since I rarely assemble them one at a time. I drill all the enclosures, prime them, paint them, do all the PCBs, like an assembly line. If I crunched like a lunatic, I could do this many in 2-3 days. But because I'm on post-burnout vacation and I'm lazy, took more than a week. And that was with enclosures I had already drilled months ago.

It's not 'exactly' the time that it takes, that gets to me, it's the repetition and difficulty of building something in great 'detail'. It's so easy to fuck up drilling 8 3mm leds in a row, and one of them's 1mm off. Likewise it's so easy to fuck up the painting (colors change as they dry), the decal application, the clear finish. And to fuck up the main big chip with 0.5 mm pin separation. I'm just not good with assembly line stuff. I would do it if it were my only job, my bread earner, but it's not. I make more than enough in my "real" job, so when I do these pedal batches, I have to force myself to do it. A week of "oh god, today I'll do this and this and this, and try not to rage".

I'm better at inventing one-offs (though that comes with its own kind of raging), than the assembly line building. And I just don't know how to offload that on others.

Which pedals have you been learning?

Speaking of inventing, I'm starting on a PDS delay killer! Here's a board I designed yesterday to help me develop it.

I'm still reading through material to familiarize myself with everything involved, I rather not jump in head first and end up blindingly following instructions, as my end goal is designing my own. :idk: I plan to make a simple fuzzface first, and then go for the rite of passage many-knobbed fuzz.

I'm surprised you don't get any volunteers for it, you'd be able to, but I see what you mean.

Granular looper?

many knobbed fuzz! atta girl! :joy: and good on ya for actually learning the stuff rather than just coloring in the numbers.

nah, not granular looper. diy-wise, my head has been stuck in granular for the last two years with the anti nautilus and all its revisions. I need a breath of fresh air. ringmod, dronebox, and pds style delay

Cool stuff!
I'm just curious, you mention something like a batch, does that mean you'll be doing more Anti Nautilus in the not so distant future, or aren't you sure?
I can totally understand the no love for the assembly line thing man, that's always what I also thought about building pedals, it's probably way cooler to make one offs.
A PDS delay killer, awesome!

I've thought about that for pedals before…like what if all the small builders got some kind of collective group of quality assemblers together to help make these, kind of like that consortium of guitar builders, builders guild or something…just some kind of interim step in being able to scale up as needed, without the risk involved.
Wasn't that what Ooh La La was doing? Building stuff for Blackbox, E13/Devi, some others back in the day..

I wantz a Nauti antilus. Gimme.
