Re: What type of pick do you use?
Doesn't seem to. Haven't changed my strings in ages, and gigged my main guitar a few times since my last string change, using a coin. The edge of a 10p coin is a little rounded, so doesn't really grind away at the string too much. I really dig the tone it gives, that I just can't replicate with a pick.
Maybe Brian May had to change his strings a bit more then I do, with all the shredding he did. I just hammer some downtuned chords.

I think is the key here is how you said it's a rounded edge. here our coins have a hard edge and half of them esp the quarter has more ridges along that side, so if you tried it here it'd probably saw through them pretty quickly. plus I like a tip on my picks. But it's an interesting approach.

Re: What type of pick do you use?
I use Fender 355s for bass (picture over to the right). I started out with those for some reason and nothing else has ever felt comfortable to me for bass.
For guitar I mostly used regular Dunlop picks (the light purple and pink gauges - purple was pretty heavy, pink had more flex). Then I tried a Dunlop tortex jazz pick and I loved it. It did take some time to get used to the smaller size b/c I was used to muscling my way through everything and I had to lighten up on my right hand a lot. I wouldn't go back though, I feel like I have a lot more control and that the jazz pick is more a part of my hand than the regular ones ever were.
