Ugh only about 3 1/2 years for me. I've always been really into music but then I acquired some new guitar playing friends and we would sit around and record stuff at my friends house with me just thumbing my b-hole until I asked to be shown a few things. So I learned honestly everything I know from two of my friends and you guys

Then I was into slightly weirder stuff than my two friends were so that led me to seeing what gear they used which led me to pedals

26 years, still fun, still learning.

Only like 6-7 years, decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar so I started practising by myself when I was 16 and then formed a band a year later.

Did sound for friends' bands/4 track recording stuff for them for years before I picked up an instrument. That would have been 24ish years ago.

26 years. Grew up with an awesome grandfather who played a bunch of instruments and always was happy to show us how to play them and then an older brother who plays guitar. I started with saxophone lessons at 12, moved from alto sax to baritone, got obsessed with basslines and found my ear always went to the bass, joined my brothers band at 15 and have gigged on bass and vocals ever since. Pretty much 23 years of writing and playing original music too - no idea why I don't write better songs. I also had a weird solo acoustic interlude at 25 where I moved to Vancouver and played for a living for a year. I'm the worst guitarist in the world so I tuned my acoustic DADGAD and just beat the shit out of it and played tormented folk songs. Went better than I expected.

I think 30 years for everything from first instrument lessons. 25-ish years for guitar when gifted an old beater acoustic and starting to pick things out. I should suck less for all that time. Guitar is my fourth instrument, but the one which stuck.

got my first bass in 6th grade, so i was probably....12? 13? 22 now 9-10 years. Baritone became my main instrument about 2 years ago. shitty junior high band, solid 3 piece during+leaving high school (highlight was playing a male beauty pageant our singer signed up for on a lark at his HS, somehow our one song fucked up their board?)

and now i'm in a band with the drummer from that one. yep

40 years.

Cos I started when I was 1. Or actually minus 8 yrs old. Yes, that's it...

i bashed around on the various instruments that were in my house growing up - guitar, piano...but i got my own bass in 1988. so...jeez...26 years? fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

My mom made me start taking piano lessons quite young so i've been doing that for 15ish years. But i've only been playing guitar for a couple or maybe 3-4 years

Clarinet 7th grade, homies. That's ten years. Played bari sax through high school. Didn't really care too much about guitars until I was 15 or so.

Got a Casio SK-1 from my aunt for Christmas when I was 8. Got a drum set from the same aunt when I was 12. Picked up guitar at 15 because none of my guitarist friends wanted to play the kind of music I did.

Coming up on 25 years since I first picked up my woodwind (twss)
and 23 years for bass. Fuuucckkk

Got my first guitar November 1981. First real band (Jr. High talent show) Spring 1983. First bass spring 1988. Started messing around with drum machines
and noise/ experimental type stuff in 97/98. Started playing drums (in a band) maybe fall of 2001.
