Re: Filter pedals
Judging from that soundclip I think my initial thought of going for something that has both filter and octave sounds on board was pretty spot on, indeed as Uni says try the Behringer BSY600, or maybe the Digitech Bass Synth Wah or the Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth.
Also the Ibanez SB7 or Boss BSY-3 or BSY-5 maybe but I have no experience with those.
The BSY600 definitely sounds pretty cool man, only the bypass isn't always that great but worst case you'll maybe need one of those tiny true bypass loopers or something.

Re: Filter pedals
Micro synth was actually my first thought
but those get a bit more expensive than I'd want
I've been wondering about them for a long time, so when the time comes (after I move and sort that out), I MIGHT just surrender and get that
The size is not really a problem for me and it WOULD give me not only great filter, but also attack control, octaves and fuzz. However, I wanted to have the budget solution in case I'm left with a bit less cash than I hope for after moving.
The Behringer looks cool indeed. I don't stomp hard, so I'm not afraid of the plastic enclosure, the only really bad thing I remember about the 600 series (played the delay a long time ago) is that the mode selectors are really wonky. And a bit of buzz. But that should not really be a huge problem for me, I probably won't use a ton of different settings throughout the set anyway
thanks guys, that seems like a really good tip. If anyone wants to chime in about the other contenders, I'd be really happy, but the BSY600 is definitely something i'll consider!

Re: Filter pedals
No problem, you're welcome dude.
Actually the BSY600 also sounds great on guitar (I only know because Univalve showed it to me on guitar), the bass player in one of my previous bands was using it for his bass but I never tried it back then.
The Bass Micro Synth is pretty cool but it's a bit more expensive, with a bit of luck you can find a good deal on eBay sometimes, it's a bit more vintage sounding though, which might not be perfect for the type of sound you're going for.
Oh, I edited my previous post to include the Ibanez SB7 and Boss BSY-3 and BSY-5 as some other options but I have no experience with those.

Re: Filter pedals
I think Tris played or at least heard the BSY600 at my House. It was an Old tip by bigchief and that Thing rules.
Tris was Not refering on the abs housing with the wonky Bypass: if you hold the Pedal the actual Note is droned. Cool effect, but makes turning it Off a Bit of an experience. So a true Bypass looper would be the only way i would slam it on my Board.

Re: Filter pedals
bass micro synth was mentioned but nothing does what it does and you can adjust sliders to how you need.
or have FXDR mod it to have separate switches.
vintage is good.

I have a big box and it was already modded by ronripper with a switch for filter. So with my tendency to overdo, I added another for voice and turned the other into the bypass which is tied to the loop between the voice and filter. Boom!
Thinking of eventually adding another setting for each switch, almost like presets. Gonna be pricey, but think it'll be worth it.
The digitech filter gets love?

Re: Filter pedals
The Behringer is probably the way to go for me right now, honestly. As the time goes by, I might get some better synth pedal and then I'd be on a lookout for a microsynth for sure, i agree it's very specific and unique
one question about the BSY600 - can the Freq and Reso knobs go very low for a darker, not as obnoxious tone? I hear a lot of very resonant and bright tones in the demos, but i'm wondering how wide the sonic spectrum is

I'll record a little something for ya later today. I'd sell you mine but with shipping you prob. might as well buy one new.
A side note though, it does not filter your cleAn signal just the synth.

Cheers man
i'm sort of surprised - there are no shops who have them in stock... I'd either have to wait for a few weeks (50 dollar pricetag) or buy one from thomann.de for approximately 60bucks+shipping
so if you think you can beat that with 15 dollar USPS shipping, PM me

Re: Filter pedals
To be honest, after digging around a bit, I might like the Digitech Bass Synth Wah a little more
But has anyone used the "guitar" Synth Wah with bass? There's one used sold locally for a decent price, but i'm not sure how good will it be for bass, mainly in terms of the octave tracking. Put up an ad for a BSW, but they seem harder to come by used

Anywho mention the Maestro Parametric Filter? It's amazing on all instruments. There is a modern clone that goes for about the same price as the vintage unit, yet it's much smaller.

You're talking about the Stone Deaf PDF-1, but that doesn't seem to be the kind of filter he's looking for right now.Uncle Grandfather wrote:Anywho mention the Maestro Parametric Filter?
