Some others to consider are the Monolith Dark Horse and possibly the Demo Tape Fuzz.


The PDF-1 is pretty nice and you have a decent amount of adjustment without having tweaker overload.
Basically, the Height knob sets the level of boost, the Freq knob sets the center of the frequency to be boosted
and the Bandwidth knob sets how far from that center frequency also gets boosted.

I thought the distortion on it was kind of meh but it may work with your set up.

The enclosure is fairly large and may take up more space than it's worth.
It also has screw in feet and I remember having to do something odd to get it to Velcro to my board.

Thanks MEC! I have a DTF on the way but I dig the gain on that so much that I might use it as a rhythm drive pedal. Hoping it replaces my Rat Tail so I can move that back to bass. The setting you have on the PDF-1 are probably in the vein of what I would want to set it to. At the end of my chain and always on. It definitely seems neat but it seems most videos and reviews I see/read about it are mostly for the gain side and if clean for the bright/thin side. Like I mentioned earlier, I love that my Sparkle Motion isn't only a treble booster but it adds tons of fucking girth and thickness to the low end, while retaining its low gain fuzz characteristics. To me it sounds like fuzz, just set very low gain (fixed pedal) and more so helping the power tubes do their thing. If the PDF-1 can do this while still giving me the ability to boost a certain low-mid frequency, then it seems to be at the top of my list. But I don't know how well it boosts or keeps a girthy low end when boosting a slightly higher mid frequency. Hope that makes sense. That's the problem that I'm having with the Greenhouse Middleman boost, as well as previous tubescreamers and such. Mids go up when the low end goes away

I'll check out a few of the other suggestions that have been posted as well. Thanks for the tip on the BMC and Monolith, too.

Essentially I'd love a fixed low pass filter with mid boost adjustability while staying low gain. So far the only thing I'm not 100% sure on for the PDF is the fixed low pass/boost part. I can only assume so much through my phone speaker for demo clips, and again, I'm tuning down C# standard, so most peoples "low pass" at standard might be a little different than mine (understandably, I'm not tunned too low).

Yeah, I have a nice set of headphones somewhere at home. I'm just usually never there! But I'm saving all these links and clips for when I pop the good headphones on. Again, the reason I want to hear from people with said pedals they're recommending

That's the only way to hear the low end, which I know you like...

you can adjust from 65hz to 3.5khz. mec explained the controls pretty well. there are three setting for the center frequency, from sharp, medium, to broad. then a control for setting what frequency you want effected, and then a control for how much boost affects the frequency you dialed in.

so if you have the sharp center frequency set, the boost will only affect the frequencies in a narrow window around what frequency you set....medium center frequency and the boost is going to affect a wider range of frequencies around where you dial in. etc with broad. Regardless of the boost setting, or frequency set, the frequencies outside the "window" are not effected.

the od has two settings, and you don't have to use either. when they are on, they don't necessarily get more dirtier, but they can depending on how you set up the filter.

you can't set a frequency and then boost another. but you can set a lowpass, with broad center frequency and the boost would affect a wider range.

at least thats how the maestro works. its great for making adjustments on the fly, or for a wah effect.

also you need a set of these to really get the most out of youtube's sound quality

I've got the Maestro too. Love it. Seriously killer pedal. And built like a tank. Very happy with that purchase. And the crazy roller knobs on the sides let you play it like a (way more flexible) wah.

And his post above about the width of the affected range is what I was going to say. I've used mine the most with an analog synth (puts out a way broader freq range than a guitar) and it handled really high highs and really low lows equally well. Awesome awesome pedal.
