As many as can find any use for, and then find a pedalboard big enough for the ones You use the most. AND it should has a little space to try out something new.
Why? Because You don't want to stick to just one fuzz sound. Because - as we agreed with band mates - that's plain wrong. Because it's almost as bad as plugging straight to Your amp an just play that, all night.

I've really only got one essential fuzz, my Sovtek Muff. But don't get me wrong, I still have a handful of fuzzes around here for recording and stuff. As far as essentials go, I will mirror the big muff, germanium fuzz of some sort (either diodes or transistors), and octave fuzz
