I think you're the only other person on ILF I've seen who still does CDs regularly
When you listen to jams over 22 minutes, you gotta do CD or you're compromising sound quality.
That I can totally hear, because I haven't been playing very loudly for years. I swear.
Yeah I've heard about this but never tested the theory myself. Although I've had a few times where an LP just sounded flat out bad in comparison to the CD version. & breaking up a long piece like this would be a shame anyways.

I'm guessing it was probably all in how it was mixed and mastered. If they just took a digital album and put it on vinyl, it'll most likely not sound its best.
I prefer the sound of vinyl above everything else, but everyone has different preferences. Also I don't mind changing sides because it keeps me from zoning out from the music, keeps me engaged. If I didn't have this problem I'd probably go with CD
It has to do with the width of the groove required for the song (which has a lot to do with mastering). You try to fit too much music on one side, you're not going to have enough space for the proper amount of low end.

Ah, ok. That totally makes sense!
I can say the vinyl version of Dopesmoker that I own is pretty great. Never listened on CD though...
I have both the Billy Anderson and Reissue mixes on vinyl and CD. There is pros and cons for any 4 of those. I normally listen to the CD formats (or i guess 320 kbps MP3 on my Iphone).
Yup....I dumped the most recently released CD onto my iPod and did some yardwork while groovin'. Also was a good choice for the gym.....just about covered the whole workout
If they spread the album out across two LP's it would definitely sound better, but would probably mess up the continuity of it.
I've got Dopethrone on both CD and vinyl but never compared them side by side to see if I had a preference (though I'm more of a vinyl guy). That's on two LP's.
After our show last Saturday the soundguy put on Dopesmoker. Made load - out a little easier. Unfortunately the room has a resonance around that low C... so the subs kind of started eating up the whole room.

I don't know about the Southern Lord vinyl, but the Tee Pee version is four sided.

The Southern Lord vinyl release of it is three-sided. Sides A,B, and C are Dopesmoker and Side D has two live recordings. At least that's on my edition that I recently obtained a few months ago.
I rock the mp3/CD versions mostly b/c I'm old and rather spend my money on new gear than a turntable and expensive vinyls (although them shits do sound good.) Went back and spun it after this thread started, and am still super excited by the movements and dynamics in it. It begs for mondo volume and rewards you justly. I have several fellow dopesmokers in the Massachusetts area to enlist when it is time for our simultaneous broadcast...
