I've regretted selling or trading a few to many things that I liked but thought weren't for me at the time.

the idea of starting over is sometimes tempting, but it takes me a long time to find stuff that really works for me and the way i play so starting over would entail a long, long process of winnowing and selection that'd be an enormous pain in the ass. it'd be more likely that i'd change things out around a core of stuff that remains the same.

I have a strict 10 pedal limit, not counting my tuner and true bypass loop switcher.
All anyone really "needs" is a fuzzbox anyway. Everything else is just dicking around.

I started my noise project (
InflatableSexBabies.com) to make use of the random pedge I had kicking around unused. It was either use it or lose it, and I've had lots of fun using it all for unintnded purposes. Sometimes you have to just look at everything in a new light.
That said, hoarding a shitload of expensive gear in hopes that one day you'll find musical inspiration is a bit of a fool's game. Sometimes you need to have nothing, to know what you really need. Material things that hold us back need to be eliminated.

I've had to sell everything once. All I have left from that was the stuff that didn't sell, couple pedals, ebow, etc. in the days before eBay.
Never, ever again - if it's worth keeping, it's worth keeping.
It's one thing to sell something I haven't bonded with but no way in hell am I starting over.
Finding some of trhe wierd shit took 5+ years to do, and I am not paying what they want for Space Echos these days. But I have to have one.
No way no way on starting over. Not at all.
If you don't need the money, why bother? Stuff > money with no purpose, as long as you have a place to keep it. This economy isn't going to get any better any time soon.

Partially....
i could imagine selling my amp and probably about half of my pedals, because they are, in the end, replaceable by something else... especially the amp
there are things though, without which i wouldn't want to start again

I've been slowly simplifying and bronze has inspired me to do more.

I will say that it's sometimes intriguing to think about rebuilding around gear that would give me a whole different, unfamiliar palette than the sounds i cleave unto. for example, i could easily imagine basing a board around the Fairfield Circuitry line, Moogerfoogers, and/or Snazzy FX. that'd involve letting go of a lot of what i know about creating "the sound in my head" and the sounds i know/love from my history, but it'd also allow years of new discovery. i could spend weeks just getting to the bottom of the Unpleasant Surprise.
