Re: Tc Electronics' new looper
The point of this thing isn't "replace your whole looping rig with a one button stompbox"... it's more like if you have a pedal board and would like to loop a few things here and there on the fly... drones, ambience, feedback, etc. Like you have a basic pedalboard with fuzz, delay, phase, etc... and you want to juuuuuuust fit a looper in there instead of having a big beast off to the side... then this is what you want.
I think it's a great idea, but I'd rather have a DL-4 or DelayLab because I prefer having REC, STOP, PLAY, etc. dedicated buttons. This would be cool to add to my little fuzzpop board, though.

Agreed.
It'll be a different story depending on price though.
If it's a simple looper that's easy to operate and around $100 ($60 in the B/S/T
), I definitely see the appeal and will probably get one. If this thing cost as much as other loopers that have more features, I could see the gripe.

Re: Tc Electronics' new looper
I'd throw down a C-note for that, no problem (three Andrew Jacksons, of course, would be better!). Some of us want to play guitar and not spend like an hour programming some perfect loop no one is going to ever hear. I appreciate things like the Boomerang, Infinity Looper, etc. but fuck if I need them.

Why are you putting us down because we are discussing the advertisement over the pedal? I'm not offended. I think it is a dumb advertisement. If its a great tiny looping pedal I'll put it on the wish list, because I hate having a huge pedal for a looper. (I'd rather have room on the pedalboard for more fuzz/verb.) But fuck them for generalizing guitarists as too simple for complex loopers with multiple knobs/switches. What do they think we do all day? My entire life is pushing buttons, flicking switches, and turning knobs! It's a bad advertisement, and just because I am criticizing the advertisement, doesn't mean I am criticizing the pedal or the people who will buy and like the pedal.

I think your reading a little too much into it.
It seems to me they're just saying they've kept it simple for the sake of simplicity not
because they think musicians aren't capable of figuring out how to use a more complicated pedal.
If you look at the other TC pedals they come with presets so you don't have to fuck around all day trying to dial in what you are looking for.
In fact, part of the charm of most pedals is that they have simplified the technology enough to be user friendly.
Also, just because you understand certain technology doesn't mean that a lot of musicians don't.
There is a reason why True Bypass/Feedback Loopers and A/B Pedals sell for $100 bucks or more
or why most musicians pay $40 to have guitars setup or even more to have them rewired.

Yea when I heard they cut out the tchnicalogical junk I read that ass they striped out like stuff the line6 jm4s got like backing tracks, drum beats, drum loop quantizing like on the rc-20 which I never even new how to work when I had them. I never read the ad as in they were dumbing it down cause guitarists can't figure out techy stuff.

I'm not putting anyone down. TC Electronic is a large company whose target demographic is probably largely guitarists. I doubt they were trying to offend anyone either.

I can't reveal the specs yet - you'll have to wait until the 9th to see the website, video, etc - but I can tell you that Ditto Looper has more looping time than Flashback... Quite a bit more actually.
Cheers,
Tore

Re: Tc Electronics' new looper
I work in an advertising agency. IMO it's a great piece of ad (fo the music gear industry at least) because for once it's based on a true insight : something that a certain category of people (ie : the target) will react to because they can relate to it. It's not meant to please everyone, because good advertising definitely isn't. It's like you're Volkswagen and you have a tiny 5000$ Indian made car to sell and you make an ad making fun of people spending ten times more to get big SUVs just to prove themselves something, and saying that smart people don't put all their money in their car. People who like big cars will get offended but they would never have bought your car in the first place. But your target will consider your product because they can relate to what you say. Here it's exactly the same : if you never looked at loopers because they seemed to complicated this ad will make you consider a looper that is unlike the others.
And the simple fact that a guitar pedal ad is discussed here proves they did a great job (I'm not even comparing it to this silly Bogner shit).

I have a Drasp'ed DL-4. Every bit as badass as the man says. Having 1/2 time / double-time / reverse / one-shot on stomps is killer.

I've got a DL-4 that I love dearly for it's looping abilities. I picked up an x4 thinking I could kick off the DL-4. No way...
I love the delays MUCH more on the x4, but the looper on the DL-4 is a mainstay.
