i've learned to not destroy my picking hand/wrist when tremolo picking, and i've learned that super heavy picks aren't good for everything.

...which is why proper thumb position on the neck is important. Gotta straighten that wrist or you'll cause some good ol' fashioned repeat stress injury. In theory, your hand should kinda be like holding a can of soda.

thumb position would depend on guitar height if the aim is to keep the wrist straight, wouldn't it?

Yes. Although there is an accepted "correct" guitar height and angle.

And grabbing it with your thumb hanging over will pretty much always tense up your wrist. But, then again, I'm not saying I have perfect technique on the guitar or anything. I usually commit the same offense. Just, sharing what I know.

i feel like theres a right and wrong way to hold a pick, but that theres also lots of ways to do it right. but theres this kinda... italian hand gesture for "the nicest pizza pie you ever-a eat" like holding up a feather or w/e. and whenever i see people pick like that, i can't comprehend how that can be effective. and on top of it, it looks like you're jacking off a tiny donger

yeah, but that seems to be an effective way to do it. i've seen quite a few famous players doing what you've just described, jimmy page being being one of them.

Ok, I Do have a bad habit that needs fixing. Playing while sitting down. For me it's murder on my elbows and doesn't do a damn bit of good for when you're on stage playing standing up.

This I definitely have.
When I was in my first band we practiced in a basement that had a ceiling shorter than I was so I always had to practice sitting down and I sort of just never got used to playing standing up.

I feel better playing standing up, too. Less likely to get sore joints, or lock up my wrist, or whatever. That said, I've got a "practice space" in what is essentially our attic now, and the roof slants down at a 45 right next to my head, so I've been sitting in an old office chair... I should stand up more.

back slides & pick harmonics, unless the song calls for a bit of cheese.
