Re: Help me spend some money
By the way, if anyone is interested, here is a vid showing off a Synthesizers.com rig, which is the modular system I'm thinking of going with:

Re: Help me spend some money
This is a tough question. Sorta depends on what you enjoy playing more I suppose. I starting building up a small modular in the last few years - and it is super fun to play - But these days I'm enjoying playing and singing simple little songs on my guitar more, so I spend more time doing that. I will say this however - it is crazy nice to have both a nice fleet of guitars and a sweet little modular. Are you thinking you'd play your modular with a keyboard or a controller, or more of a patch it up and let it kinda do its thing? I've got spare Blacet stuff here and am down to talk turkey if you have any questions. It's a rabbithole though. Be careful!
Some sounds from my little system (video stuff by my buddy Alex...)

I'd probably be more about playing it with a keyboard or some sort of controller, and also occasionally running my bass and pedals through the filters and some of the other modules. The Dotcom guys do make an instrument interface module with a pretty hefty amplifier to boost the signal up to the right levels.
I'd need some sort of sequencer if were gonna just do the patch it up and let it go thing. The Dotcom sequencer is pretty expensive and huge. I bet I could find a smaller and cheaper sequencer module somewhere else.

Yeah, those instrument interface modules are super cool... Was jamming with a friend the other night and he was triggering / playing his modular with his bass and one of those. Pretty awesome stuff. Like a Mega-FreqBox or something.

Yeah, the Dotcom guys have a hard-sync jack on their oscillators, so I could easily do the Freqbox thing.

I voted for a Ric, but if you don't really need it I'd go for modules to use with my bass (like that awesome dude on talkbass).
Depends on what you need really. It would suck if you would get a new bass and then have your pedalboard crap out on you or sth.

Sounds pretty damn good, bcbc. I still think this's what you should spend the cash on.
(Oh, and get a ribbon controller.)

I hear what you're saying but that IS all NEW gear...
And DAMN we got some peeps with a hard on for Rics...
Neighbor just got a Doepfer Ribbon Controller with Midi to CV the other day and it's really is cool... The pressure stuff rocks the Minitaur...

I'd thought about that, but after I'd already posted. Change what I said from early' to just 'analog', and I'll still feel the same...stuff just looks The Business.

Re: Help me spend some money
Just a bump for an update, as my money has arrived and I'm come to a decision.
I had a long talk with the wife about how I basically want all of these things and I really don't want to have to choose between them. So I've come up with a plan to do it all.
I'm going to start looking for a Ric right now, and as soon as I find one in the 1200-1300 range, I'm buying it.
I'm going to sell a couple things to raise the money for the new pedalboard and power supply. My FS thread will be going up in a few minutes.
I am going to take a small chunk of the raise I'm getting with my new job and put it aside each paycheck, which will allow me to afford to buy a synth in 4 months or so. I'm going to try the Little Phatty first, and see if it does everything I want. If I find it too restrictive or it doesn't do absolutely everything I want, I'll just resell it and then start putting together the modular.
So while it seems that this whole thread is moot, it actually was a big help, because it helped me prioritize the order I'm going to get things.

Gotta agree with any plan that includes owning a Ric!

Re: Help me spend some money
Christ, two Rics I was watching on eBay went for over 1500 shipped yesterday. It might take a while to find one in my price range.
