i ordered one on a whim when it first came out and when it arrived i thought

but its grown on me a lot, its very subtle.
its a low gain fuzz, kind of like the barbershop overdrive in that it keeps the definition of all the strings and the input tone.

i play a lot of chords, and a lot of harmonically rich chords rather than single note riffs, and they have really good definition.
i can hear every string clearly but they are all .... fuzzy!

as an all switches down 'boost' i havent found any use for it at all :idk:
although if you use only the octave up switch then you can get a clean sound octaves
same goes for the 2nd and 4th by themselves, but maybe i'll find a use for them later.

so 1st switch always up for me.
it has a very even, dry, 'flat' sound, doesnt add any bass monsterness at all.
add in the second switch for a little extra upper mid range gain, its still very light though.
* responsive *
add in the 4th switch and there is more bass and high end, and a little more gain/width.
still keeps the basic non colouring fuzz though, and still keeps the definition.

its very noisy/hissy with the 1st and 4th together considering that it isnt massive gain, perhaps thats the price of the definition.

it has a nice lo-fi dirty sound, stick a phaser after it and its a real late 1960s garage/funk solo tone

the bias knob thing is very subtle apart from the last hour when it changes completely.
softens the attack, affects the octave tracking a bit (i dont really use the octave for single notes)

the volume knob is very wide range, i wish that it was scaled a little more on the low volume end as a mm change can go from just right to too loud, in terms of balance the on/off level

so after playing with it for a month my verdict is :thumb:

Has anyone ever tried a STEP with a bass? Especially the octave function...I've got this one song where I'd love to have a nice mildly fuzzy octave tone for some upper register playing. Can't really find any reviews or vids of how it sounds on a 4 string.

Just picked one up from a friend, so sorry for the necro bump, but how well do these stack? It'll be running into a mini and an Elements most likely.

I liked mine more after a Mini but ymmv. Are you still playing bass/vi/Bari? It's a nice aggressive cutting fuzz but I don't remember how it handles lows. I think it does pretty well. Doesn't add any bass but doesn't kill it either

If you don't bond with it I'll happily take it off your hands.
