Octave fuzzes aren't polyphonic, any more than a note and its root is going to confuse the signal.
That said, I do have one particular superfuzz that doesn't futz out on bigger chords, but maybe its octave is dialed in weakly... it also palm mutes really well, its a weird one.

Try a twelve string tuned in octaves through a boost into a cranked amp? I can't imagine anything getting more "transparent" than that.

Ok, I will. Anyone willing to quote themselves twice is worth listening to.

That isn't really the "octave" effect I'm looking for though is it?

What is that?

But seriously though, what do you lot think of the Catalinbread Manx Loaghtan for my desired tone?

How about Catalinbread Manx Loaghtan EQ'd to be biting but not hairy <- Black Arts Black Forest EQ'd to more of a "pushed speaker" rock setting <- Henretta Purple Octopus balanced a bit below 50%? That sounds like it could work.

Maybe replace the Black Forest for a Catalinbread DLSmkII Super Bass or replace the Manx for the Dirt Transmitter. Maybe I could even Have a Black Forest as the main pedal and push it with something silly like an old RAT or a Barber Dirty Bomb. I could even hit up the ILF2012 if it can clean up nicely.

All I really need at the end of the day is a tight, punchy, and dense sound that cuts through the mix and has enough subtlety so I can actually hear chords being played clearly.

What I don't want is a mess of flabby bass, icepick highs, and feedback. I could just set my Sansamp Tri AC to the Marshall setting if I wanted that

If I were you, I'd run it boost > octave > fuzzy dirt > boost

boosts'll give you the punch, fuzzy dirt'll give you the density, you can dial in or out how tight and clear you wanna sound.

you may even wanna sometimes turn off the fuzz completely. Two boosts run together can get quite fuzzy on their own especially if one of them is a Black Forest.
(Sounds more like what you're looking for.)

I just pulled the trigger on a Black Arts Black Forest and a Wampler Euphoria Overdrive!

After literally a solid half-a-day of concentrating on pedal effects, I was going to go with the Black Forest and the Dirty bomb, but then I was like: "wait, won't that be too 'high gain' for me?" Then there was this weird hour-or-so where I thought the Manx Longhorn or SCOD would be what I was looking for instead of the Dirty Bomb.

Finally I came upon the great idea of using a nice Xotic BB preamp (basically a TS9 mixed with an 808, but warmer) to push the Black Forest, but then I remembered there was this one Wampler pedal in the back of my mind. That pedal was the Wampler Euphoria/Ecstasy, ie. their Dumble-voiced foundation-ish OD. Basically it is much like the BB Preamp but a bit more "tasty" in its versatility (does the creamy cleans, screamy blues, wanky leads, and such and so on and blah blah blah) so I finally settled on that.

And -of course- I will post clips when I am done. It is the least I can do for the most helpful forum I have been to in a long, long time.

Cheers everyone! :joy: :omg: :!!!:

I think you're gonna like the Black Forest (at least I hope you do). Not familiar with the Euphoria, but I hope you like that too.

What are you gonna use for the octave up (or are you forgetting that part of the equation)?
