I am pretty sure that the gear addiction was one of the reasons for the failing of my marriage. I think it alienated us and put something between us. My Ex would not understand anything about what I do, she hated the music I made and was in constant challenge of my GAS. I have only pretty recently fallen upon the GAS virus, before that I collected books and records, no woman ever seemed to have a problem with that. Gear however means more money blown out at a time and non-musicians can't conceive what pedals or additional guitars serve for. I am always struggling for money but have been doing so for all my life. I can't hold onto the dough at all, I have a need to blow it out if it were not for gear it'd be for something else. Sometimes I reiterate to clothing but most of what I like in that department is mad expensive too. :idk:

Err. Yeah, no good experiences with women and gear so far. I really want to meet a musician girlfriend.

Dude, the issue you have is not that these women are not musicians, it is that you have a different approach to money handling than they did. It has nothing to do with what you are buying.

Compromises need to be made in regards to gear and everything else.

My girlfriend and I have been together for 3.5 years now. She's a musician too, so she understands my instrument and gear lust. She's gifted me a handful of odd instruments I have. Both ukuleles and my didgeridoo, at the least. She understands the gear whoring and even acts interested when I start talking about certain guitars or pedals.

Can't argue with that.

My wife says "I don't understand the fascination behind this silly music you make and listen to, but I'm just glad you don't play in a band that sings about their feelings or relationships because that would be hella gay"

She's cool like that....

Okay, she didn't actually say "hella", but the rest is true.....

Worked out a deal with my wife to get the Jazzmaster. Could only get it if Musician's Friend would give me the 13% off which they did!

My wife is a lot more supportive of my music gear than she has been of previous hobbies. Prior to getting back into playing guitar I collected/restored arcade and pinball machines. It was a cool hobby but all of the games I ever picked up (usually about 1 every couple of months) were at least about 4 hours roundtrip to go get. Add in the countless hours spent in the basement and/or garage restoring the games plus the money I put into buying new parts and artwork and she lost interest in that hobby quick. When I sold everything and put the money towards music gear she was thrilled and ended up buying me an EHX Ravish Sitar as she loves sitar music.

My dear husband is the reason I started playing again after years and years. <3

He bought me my musicmaster bass (with some other shortscale neck on it), a DL 4, an eq rack, and we share a GK head. I have also co-opted some stuff he has traded for (the Squire Jaguar).

For my part, it is pretty easy to support his habit/hobby because he is so good about checking in with me before he buys something. If we don't have the money, he doesn't even ask. We both try to sell other stuff if we really NEED something new.

Im moving in with my girlfriend into a tiny ass space (gotta love ny....) And I want/need another guitar. Half of the space will probably be taken up by my rig so we'll see how that goes..
