I do like Cream a lot... But I like them less for Clapton and more for Baker and Bruce, who were phenomenal musicians.

I'm in this boat. I like Cream in spite of Clapton, but Baker and Bruce could be incredible together - they're the reason to listen to Cream. But then Mountain took that torch and ran with it, and did it better than Cream ever did, IMO.

And I think there are plenty of modern psych-type bands that are exciting. Dead Meadow rules. The first two Black Mountain albums were pretty great. Nebula kicks/kicked ass (hopefully they're not gone for good). Om, Earthless, Wooden Shjips, Comets on Fire, the Warlocks...etc. I'm not sure if any of these guys actually *call* themselves "psychedelic", but that's what I think of them as.

I saw Nebula live before I ever even heard any of their recorded stuff, so that's the image of them that sticks with me - and they just destroyed it when I saw them. Eddie Glass is one of my favorite guitarists ever, and has produced some of the best guitar tones I've heard on record. They're definitely more "stoner rock" and less "psychedelic" than a lot of bands in this conversation, so I could see where you're coming from.

I haven't noticed "psychadelic" being overused, but I stay away from a lot of music media sources. I get my recommendations from here, direct contact on "social media"and other musicians. IN PERSON!

That said I am still pretty pissed off about "indie" being a genre. BUt Im sure I already have a thread on that subject somehwere.

I was a little worried about Wilderness Heart, because I played the fuck out of In The Future, but it clicked immediately. To me it's like a mix of Sticky Fingers and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath but split down the middle. So I was really happy to find it really grew on me and I think it's as good as ITF but I know I'm the minority in that opinion. I had the last tune, Sadie stuck in my head for like a solid week a little while back

As for Nebula, I've never seen them live. Their records to me are just a little generic. I'm sure if I saw them live it would be great, but they're one of these bands where, I would buy their album, listen, file away and then never play again....

I agree completely. Seems like ad some delay and a phase 90 = 'psychedlic'. It's like bands that sound like tool claiming they play 'doom'.

Funnily enough, Tool has moments that flirt with both doom and psychedelia.

More importantly, it's gorgeous outside, and I've spent all day being drunk in the sun. People can call their music whatever the fuck they please.
