I really don't know where the hell you guys are finding these deals. I watch eBay and Craigslist religiously, and I never see an all-tube head going for cheapz.

uhh....on eBay and CL?

CL varies hugely based on where you're looking though. Coolest thing I ever saw on CL here was an Ampeg B-15N for $450. But the rest is just nothing. Maybe a GK head or something, a 410 with tweeter. And endless fields of starter pack amps.
Talkbass is pretty good sometimes. I got my VB-2 for $550, it's new as used can be and they're like $900 from a store

I'm still holding out for the rare flea market/pawn shop treasure.

sigh. that's another component i was trying to avoid. i don't know SHIT about heads. never interested me. ss power amps? the way i've always rolled? fucking EASY. how many watts per how many channels at how many ohms. so. simple.

Anyway, if you can A/B a tube head and your current rig/part of it with some fuzz pedals, you'll probably understand it.

Clean blend makes you hollow and cold inside.

No! Nein! Nyet!

But fuzz pedals (IMO YMMV BANANA) sound better through tube heads. Try a rig A/B with one of your favorites. Adjust fuzz and amp settings to taste, obviously, 'cause the preamps are prolly gonna be different and'll interact differently with yer pedz.
