This, plus active electronics are the worst, in my opinion. I've been trying to get my bassist to ditch his Warwick for a "real" bass for 2 years now.
Agreed, our bassist uses his G&L in passive mode, for some reason his pedals do not like the volume boost the active electronics provide. He's now on the search for a passive epi/gibby Flying V bass.

active basses, passive basses - neither of them are any more
real basses.
It's just about placement of the preamp in the signal chain, nothing more.
MANY modern fuzz pedals work absolutely fine with a boost pedal or another fuzz in front, or an active preamp in front. Think of it as stacking, it doesn't always sound best with the boost on full blast. Same with the active electronics. Works way better with some gear that way, not so good with other, and there's always option of backing down the dials so...

it's a matter of taste, said the dog, licking his balls clean, a matter of taste.

There is something doomy about selling kidneys tho.
Selling your Heart or your Soul is doom, selling you kidneys is not. Your heart and soul will mislead you, your kidneys filter all the alcohol you drink at gigs.

My alcohol doesn't need filtering.
