Line 6 Liqua-Flange has stereo ins.

As long as it has the stereo dock.

Perhaps a little standard, but I love my BF-2 more than any other flanger I've played. I like its subtlety.

I've never really played with a flanger but I love the flanger sounds in my cosmichorus. It's kinda subtle which I like because I usually think flangers sound kinda cheesey.

I don't know if this is actually a flanger, but I really like this:

The Moog is certainly quality, but no through-zero = no 500 dollars. That money would get me a Paradox TZF

Here's my nooby question.. What does through zero mean?

The best way to explain what through-zero means is to explain how flanger works. Originally flanger was created by playing two copies of the same track, and slowing one of them down slightly (<10ms), and then letting it speed back up while slowing the other one down. You get a standard flanger comb-filter sound. But at the exact moment when the first one overtakes the second one, it creates this awesome unique cancellation effect.

Most pedal flangers emulate the flanger sound by delaying one line, modulating the delay time, and mixing it with the dry signal. But the delayed line can never overtake the clean one. It can't go "through zero" delay time (unless you invent a way to have negative delay time, i.e. travel into the future)

There are a few flangers out there that can go "through zero", by using TWO delays, and modulating them both so that one can overtake the other. That is what is meant by "through-zero" flangers. The ones I know of that can do this are the EHX Flanger Hoax, the Strymon Orbit, the TC Vortex, and the Foxrox Paradox TZF. There might be a couple more that emulate it digitally.

EDIT: Here's an example of the "through-zero" sound, using an EHX Flanger Hoax. Skip ahead to 1:55 in this track to hear it:

Thanks for the explanation dude. I've been wondering what that meant for a while. I think I remember Jack DeVille (sorry if I spelled that incorrectly) made a pedal called the Mod Zero or something that did through zero.

I see why it would be uncommon for analog flangers to do through zero based on your description. It seems like you would almost have to build two flangers in one box.

Btw sorry I couldn't listen to that clip. I ILF it from my old ass iPhone and I don't have a computer so I can't use soundcloud or anything that uses flash (I know soundcloud doesn't use flash my iPhone is just too old).

So, bcbcbcbcbcbb, what settings are you using on the hoax for TZF? I have one, but I use it mostly for huge phasey flange sweeps. Is it what it's set in that pic of your board recently?

The settings may not be exact, but they're close to that picture, yeah. Delay mode 3, both phasers off, feedback set to wet, and up pretty high. Then just play with the two delay time knobs until it sounds right.

Sweet. I've tried finding it in the past, but always got distracted by the gross squishy squelching noises.

just remindin y'all that im the king of flange.

personal favorite cheap flange is the Rocktron Hypnotic Flange, and i;d love to know if there are any mods to make the "hypnotic" section more prominent. which would literally make it the best flange you could buy. and of course modded DOD flanges

but for now, the moogerfooger choralflange is #1 for me.

What exactly were you running to achieve this sound?

That was incredible.
