Anyone who doesn't like the original Fleetwood Mac doesn't like blues music. I'm sorry.
Yes!
Rory was my introduction to the blues -- went to see him almost by accident when I was still a teenage metalhead and my world changed. He was a helluva performer and one of my favourite musicians ever.

Holy shit, a Peter Tosh reference and a fellow Rory fan in one thread.

Oh I know that. But I like em as my blues fix and I stick to it. North Mississippi Allstars are about as bluesy as I'll go beyond that.

I like old delta blues and one man band blues like Seasick Steve, but a whole blues band to me is boring as hell. Except blues brothers type stuff where it becomes fun again...

...sure, there's hardly anything not to love about Black Sabbath (ahem - except for the 1986–1990 and the 1993–1996 mishaps that rarely produced anything but merely OK repercussions of the good old days).

But if the early Black Sabbath goes then it's because of blues rock, right? Hard rock or early heavy metal basically, or psychedelic rock. What ever. If You read the old interviews with the bands, Jimi Hendrix qualifies as Heavy Metal as well as Free and early Jethro Tull. All excellent artists. Just not excellent for being blues in traditional sence, I guess, but for advancing from there.

Nick Drake is pretty heavy. The Floyd had their moments, too.

Ayuh--Riverman is one helluva phantasmagorically bucolic Pook's Hill blues just for starters....

You're kidding.
Blue Cheer
MC5
Budgie
Sir Lord Baltimore
Leaf Hound
Even Amon Duul to an extent

(And what about Deep Purple?)

I remember the firs time I heard Motorhead -- it was the heaviest filthiest thing ever, and that was the 70s.

Also The Doors (via The End) and The Stooges.

Dev, If I were Britannia, I'd waive the rules.

Amon Duul or Amon Duul II? Or both?

no, all of those are pushing it to the point of metal including anyone who played rock. there is a very defined line between the whole sorta biker/hard rock thing and heavy metal. most people forget that.

the band that DID blur it was BOC

@ the dude calling the stooges metal

The definitions change all the time. Motorhead used to be the definition of Metal, despite being kinda Duane Eddy through Marshalls turned up to 12.
OTOH, I've seen Angel (barf) defined as heavy metal.
