I normally wouldn't either, but, about have the time I've read a write up on the Vintage Rat it's called a fuzz... And I sold off mine so long ago I really don't remember how it sounded... which is why every now and then I gas for another, but then I remember how long my first one sat around unused :idk:

I always find the line between distortion and fuzz to be pretty blurry, so I usually smush them together. I mean, there are several instances of famous guys using rats in a "bass fuzz" sort of context, i.e. early chancellor and novoselic

I owned a rat, it seemed fuzzy enough: I will not particpate in an "Are Rats Fuzz??" Poll
Some of us are still recovering from the offset polls!!

I think some of these it depends on settings, I think my arc flash can get OD/DIST/Fuzz Tones pretty easily.

I included the Germanium OD, because if you crank the gain and bias and drop the volts, it totally becomes fuzz. :idk:

Works for me,

Is that hard to use without a volume knob?

Yeah, it definitely is really fucking loud if you crank the gain. But I had a limiter on my board at the time, so that was my solution.

yeah, no shit. stipulated: for purposes of discussion, if its primary function is to make your speaker go bzzzzzz in some manner, it should count as "fuzz." otherwise we'll be here debating fine points of epistemology all week. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Great stacking pedal?

 it's ok.. but.. story goes like this...
I got one [#45], loved it so I got another for backup [#47] and to use in another rig, at the time I was using it in a barge blending loop with a bbe sonic stomp to get my fuzz sound... then I tried a bunch of other pedals... got frustrated because nothing was really getting the sound I wanted so I got a third [#100] with thoughts of modding/having modded with a blend and a eq/tone... then I finally found out who was selling Katana Sound in the US and ordered the Super Bass Fuzz which gets the sound in my head :thumb: :yay: Then #2 came up on ebay for cheap :thumb:  Then MLC sent me the EA so I sent him #47 [which I never ended up using...] and a DOD Octave... or something like that...

Started out in the mid '90s with a (black) Russian Big Muff. Then I sold it to get an US Big Muff (meant to be an improvement...).

I didn't bond very well with fuzz at the time ( ), so for a long period I've mainly relied on distortion pedals for my dirt (ShredMaster, Guv'nor, Rat).

It's now a couple of years that I've begun to REALLY enjoy fuzz boxes. :!!!:

Here's a photo dating back to a couple of months ago:
Image

Some pedals have now gone (Twosome, hiFuzz, Snowdrift), some others have come (a Maestro Fuzz-Tone FZ-1A clone and a Montarbo Sinfhoton custom clone).
I've also owned a Devi Ever Shoegazer and a Fridgebuzzz Land of the Rising Fuzzz (both not pictured); sold them approx. three months ago.

Here's one of my latest acquisitions ('78 BM-4 Op-amp):

Other dirt (non-fuzz) over the time: Fuck OD, Tim, ShredMaster, DriveMaster, Guv'nor (first version), several Rats (Vintage, Turbo, Whiteface, RAT2, etc.), Boss HM-2, Boss OD-2r, Boss SD-1, Boss SD-2, Boss DS-1 (Keeley mod.), D*A*M Sonic Titan, Fulltone FullDrive 2 Mosfet, Skreddy Screwdriver DLX, DMB Stellar Drive.

Well, I may be forgetting some pedals here and there...
