Another shitty point regarding Orange: I've had trouble with newer Oranges and pedals, lots of noise and mush, just heartbreaking to realize your pedals hate your amp or vice versa. Opposite experience with the older Orange wares though...

Generally speaking, new Oranges are close, but clearly a step or two away from the real thing.

ya i was gonna suggest the TT but i thought it being only 15 watts would be a problem. i have a TT and love it, takes pedals pretty well i think, though ive really never played anything other then an epi vj so im not the best person to answer that. but with only three knobs its simple and effective, it also can get pretty loud.

I know on the bass end of things Ashdown makes the Little Bastard. 30 Watts.

I thought low-powered tube heads were a dime a dozen for guitarists? That could just be me laboring on the "bassists have so much less to sort through" kick, though.

Too many possible amps to start listing them, tons of great suggestions already. I like simple amps too. My favorites are Blackheart Handsome Devil 15 watt combo and a '74 Traynor Bass Master @ 40 watt head. Both are single channel, no reverb, and 6 knobs. Laney GH50L 50 watt has 7 knobs, one channel, no reverb... Both the Traynor and the Laney work great as guitar or bass amps.

I also really like my Crate Vintage Club 50 head. The clean channel is just Vol-Bass-Treble, and the od channel is just the bare bones drive-vol-hi-mid-lo, and it's got excellent spring reverb that you can set for each channel. I keep meaning to sell that amp off, but I love the clean channel w/ pedals and the reverb (REVERB!). Those are pretty easy to find used, more often as a combo amp.

These are at the low-mid end of used prices $300-500. If you want to spend more there's tons more amps...

The new Traynor Iron Horse is rad.
The other guitar player in my band juuusst bought one and it's awesome and super simple.
It's 40 watts of badassery. It was $600 new too. Pretty solid and made in Canada!

How about a Satellite Amp? Two knobs and earthshakingly loud.

But 30 watts is just so...puny.

I know it doesn't seem like much, but it can get loud, and will sound better when it gets loud than a larger amp running at the same volume. If you're worried about gigs and whatnot, trust me, sound engineers and their mics can work some magic. I've been playing gigs with a cheap little solid state I borrowed from my bandmates girlfriend, and that's been audible at our shows.

Another band ours played with had one dude with a Marshall stack, one with an Orange, and a guitar player using a Marshall Class Five (who kindly offered to let me use it, but I declined for fear of breaking someone else's amp. I don't feel great about running my fiddle through other peoples gear. If I blow my own/cheap speakers, I won't feel nearly as bad as someone else's expensive ones.)

I'm buying a 40 watt, and that even seems loud as loud can be.

Satellite Amps are perfect...the price tag, bah, but those amps are exactly what I wanted, minus a lot on the tag. Maybe the tax return will be grand.

Is it ridiculous that I thought, "hmmm, is that skynard. Yeah, it's got to be, they have three guitarists and use Peavey amps."

I love my AC15. Like Alice recommended, they're great little, simple tube amps. Unfortunately they're not quite as powerful as needed sometimes. Don't get me wrong, they can get loud...but yeah.

I've actually been warming up to my new two channel head. I've never been able to get my cleans to really shine through like this
