Years ago Juan Aldrete from the Mars Volta convinced me I had to have an EHX Bass MicroSynth and he was right!!

Only the Boss HM-2, acquired about a month ago, because of MBV. I'm kind or surprised that it wasn't more.
Now I just bought a Magicstomp, and yeah, the Early Reflections patch, but for other capabilities, too. Plus, I wanted to by one when they were still in stores, but no money. So I declare that one exempt.
(For studio stuff, I have a few cheap manglers because of Tchad Blake fanboyism, but I think just two.)

I think for a while adam jones had his neck pickup removed.
Is that the next step?

That makes sense, I don't own a guitar that I haven't gutted, but if I owned a custom I would probably leave it alone.

Geezer Butler and Lemmy made me take up bass guitar, Jimi convinced me to try out a multistring bass and fuzz.

I broke free of my prejudice and bought a P bass because Wolf from The Chariot plays them.
I bought a big box Rat RI because of Nick Theineman from Young Widows.
And, not really a piece of gear, but I did put a black pickguard on my sunburst tele because of Evan Paterson from Young Widows.

I couldn't tell you one group that uses anything I have...except maybe amps. Even then, they are not why I own those amps. However, I have seen a few bands that changed my mind of a pedal sounding good or not...yet I still didn't go buy them.

Re: Who has bought gear because of someone famous?
I can be up front and honest and say I bought both of my Jazzmasters because four of my favorite bands used them; My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, and Television. As far as pedals, I only got into them around 2008 when I saw My Bloody Valentine in Chicago. I was embarrassingly dumb when it came to things like that. Before then I just never thought to even look at what people were using, but when I saw ALL of those pedals I became extremely curious as to what the all the fuss was about. Prior to my first major exposure to the world of boutique pedals I think I only owned a Rat, Big Buff, Whammy, TS-808, and a Boss TR-2, CS-3, and DD-6. After the show that night, I was talking to some random person about the insane amount of gear that was used, and he directed me to the Devi Ever forum. That eventually led me to ILF, and the rest is history. Now I have a gear thirst that can't seem to be quenched.
