I think i know what you mean, modernage 
i mean - i have the Wampler Faux Tape Echo and EQD Disaster Transport (so tape/analog sounds). Wampler can get super long without overpowering and mushing up your sound, it's also much more controlable oscillation-wise because basically when i don't turn the "tone" knob way up, it doesn't self-oscillate, it's just extremely long, atmospheric and washy... Disaster tranport on the other hand has really shorter repeats until the point it starts to self oscillate and it's much more overpowering
i guess even though with different gear, i'm in a similar situation here
