Goblin is kind of weak.

I really want to like this record. I just feel its so whiny compared to the work I'm used to.

However, this is definitely not ICP for hipsters.

Its more like a youth rehash of stuff like Gravediggaz. Rap has been pretty boring lately. Will have to check out Death Grips.

I though this guys tape was decent (on this track I think Action Bronson wins; but no one loses):

I keep hearing it's not as good as we thought it'd be. It went through the hype machine and then had too many expectations. Bastard wasn't as good to me when I first heard it as it is now...so we'll see.

Gravediggaz is a good call, hence the horrorcore label, however, I don't think that's the case for them.

Agreed on the labeling bit, I've ranted in a few threads about that, which turns into back handed comments from other people who don't understand.

The extra verse on Yonkers wasn't needed. The only line I liked in it was the pitchfork one, and you can clearly tell that the voice track on that one was done at a separate time. Sandwitches grows on you dispite the non-screamed chorus. I still enjoy the record, it's just a massive disappointment. Bastard>Goblin, easily.

i wouldn't single out tyler specifically, because its sorta the culture of the medium to take shit like that way to far for it to be a joke and mean it as a joke.

its not right, but its just gone to the point where the only person that honestly believes its a joke is the person telling it, when everyone else thinks they just sound like an ass.

thats also why their lyrical style has like... 0 mileage.

I singled out Tylerjust because I listen(ed) to his music and because he is picking up the most steam. My point was less about the problem with Tyler and more about myself (my biggest shot at him was calling him childish, which he even admits). In the time between Yonkers video and the release of Goblin, Tyler managed to become a parody of himself.

I'm not a big fan, but I just read this..
...Odd Future (or OFWGKTA, an acronym for Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) puts out tracks that un-self-consciously blend anarcho rap with retro post-hipster humor.

well... it does.

we're in a post-post-modern society where silly kids recording themselves isn't silly kids recoridng themselves, and is hyper-analyzed, where doing things ironically means doing things you like that are shitty BECAUSE they are shitty, not DESPITE THE FACT that they are shitty.

its the New Sincerity filtered through hipster irony and it comes across as a confused mentality that isn't like the 80'z punk/zine scene which was similar, by the basic fact that they're not acting like that because of some core value, but rather because it "looks/sounds/is cool"
