Stephen Stern is the guy who builds the Gretsch Custom Shop guitars, the $10,000 George Harrison/Brian Setzer/Billy Zoom limited edition models and shit. i've seen a couple of them, and he does really good work, but there's just something in me that says "a ten thousand dollar Duo Jet? really?" for that much money, a new Gretsch should actually play me Chet Atkins' greatest hits whenever i'm bored and need some deftly executed muzak.

i'll have to take exception to this.
and i write this with a smile on my face.....just a diff view. :idk: :poke:

i gig with my vintage guitars and feel if you don't use your vintage guitar you're a poser.
why have a nice guitar and not use it? why call a guitar a nice "piece"??? ... those people piss me off.
granted in all my travels and the 100's of guitars that have gone thru my hands i have never spent more the 2000 and only did that twice. a 53 gretsch and a 55 gibson ES 295. i gave the gretsch away.
one of my go to guitar is a 56 TV jr (my cost 500)...i could get 5000 easy for it...i use it. i never think that i am showing off..just using my fave guitar. people prob think its a new one anyway.
i just have always liked guitars, amps, and all that shite,
but i guess im a jackass and dick.
:whateva:

Well since I have never owned a guitar that was worth more than $700 I can't really speak in terms of actually having the experience. However, I know that if I ever had a really expensive guitar than I would be to scared to let anything happen to it, in which I wouldn't have any fun with it because I would be to cautious on stage. But if I had had the guitar for a long time like you had then it would be a different story. I believe good tone/sound is achievable with almost any guitar but that doesn't mean I can't still want more expensive gear ;) :p . Man if only I was old enough to buy a vintage Jazzmaster in the 90's when they only went for a couple hundred. :picard: Sorry for rant so... i hate metal guitars just like most of the other people on this thread. Oh yea also LP's I personally don't like since they seem overated. I hate it when ever I talk to one of my school mates and tell him I have a mustang and he says I suck because I dont have aLes Paul and that those are the best because Slash uses one. Of course the first guitar he ever got was a Gibson Les Paul and he doesn't even play it.

I'd love to play crazy old Banjitars, Mandolutes, and Ukouzoukis on stage. I would never feel like a jackass with those. That would be very cool.

Just wondering, but why all the PRS hate?

I don't know much about them but I don't see any point metalz guitars on their product page...

Yeah.....I know that I am not that much interested in them but I wouldn't in any way be embarrassed to have or play one.

I'd feel like a jackass playing this bass but I'd do it anyway if given the chance:

my sister has that in guitar form. i brought it to band practice two years ago and we decided that it was semi-metal looking.

it's not that i "hate" metal guitars...go take a look at my photo in the "let's see you" thread and then tell me i wouldn't look like a total dorkapotamus with a Mockingbird, even if i was rocking it ironically.

Maybe the OP meant guitars that *start off* costing $6000. Guitars that are vintage today were usually once fairly reasonably priced.

But if I had a brand new $6000 guitar, I'd play the shit out of it.
